Summary/Abstract: The most important rule that should accompany a homilist in interpretingbiblical texts is fidelity to the Holy Scriptures and the Church whichhas the mission of guarding and explaining the Word of God. This meansthat the servant of the Word must use proven tools, including the biblicalhermeneutics. For the homily that occurs in a liturgical event, it is importantto respect one more fundamental principle. The point is to take intoaccount the fact that “liturgical setting is an essential key to interpretingthe biblical passages proclaimed in a celebration” (Homiletic Directory, n.15). The aim of the article is to present how to interpret the word of God inthe liturgy on the example of the third Sunday of Lent, cycle A. Firstly, ananalysis of the readings of the Mass Lectionary was carried out. The nextstep was to read the kerygma in the context of euchological texts. Then theauthor synthetically presented the main topics of the celebration, readingthe kerygma of the sacred texts in the baptismal key.
