Summary/Abstract: The week of prayer for Christian unity, organized by the Ecumenical Association of Churches in Romania, took place between 18-25 January. This year’s meetings are centered around the Scripture verse containing the exhortation „Remain in Mylove” (cf. John 15, 9). The event was attended by His Grace Varlaam Ploieșteanul, Vicar Bishop to the Patriarch, as delegate on behalf of His Beatitude PatriarchDaniel, and by representatives of other Christian Churches and denominations in Bucharest. His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel offered an address entitled „Let us become the hands of Christ’s compassionate lovingkindness!”, strongly asserting the holiness of matrimony, solidarity within the family and among families, the importance of maternity, paternity, filiation and fraternity, as gifts of the love of God, that must be fostered in the communion of love and shared responsibility. „In the context of the ongoing pandemic, we greatly need much prayer, solidarity and fraternal help. WeChristians are called to extend a helping hand to those in suffering and poverty, to the deprived families, supporting the families with many children, the elderly and the persons who are lonely, distressed, mourning or suffering, offering a token of Christ’s merciful love for them, through acts of compassion and good deeds”, HisBeatitude stated. The octave of prayer for Christian unity began at the church of Parcul Domeniilor-Cașin parish, a patriarchal chapel in Bucharest, then continued over the following days at „Saint Basil the Great” Greek-Catholic Diocesan Cathedral, the Armenian Diocesan Cathedral, the Lutheran Church, Calvineum ReformedChurch, the German Evangeical Lutheran Church, and „Saint Joseph” Roman-Catholic Cathedral. The topic for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity offered the opportunity to share the experience and wisdom of life supported by the love of God, and to talk about the importance of prayer and solidarity in cultivating Christian unity.
