Summary/Abstract: Based on archive sources and data from the local media, the article presents briefly the history of the Roman Catholic music school in Kolozsvár. Established in 1919 in the Marianum, a Roman Catholic school for girls, the Hungarian musical institution was open for both sexes and served as an important cultural and educational forum until its closing in 1931. Initially it preserved much of the teaching staff of the former local Conservatory which was undertaken by the Romanian state in August 1919. The ecclesiastical school employed highly trained teachers, its developing curricula and active concert-life contributed not only to the religious events. Its first directress, Ilona Csipkés was a skilled piano player, its second (and last) leader, Rezső Zsizsmann was an acclaimed organist and conductor.
