Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show the tendencies and percentage of asylum applications in the period of 25 years from Serbia and Montenegro and Romania, countries that faced the culmination of the wave of the asylum-seekers into other countries at the beginning of the nineties. Furthermore, the geographical aspect is interesting as well; i.e. the target countries where the citizens of the two countries applied the most. “Dirty secret” of the asylum is that although many people seek it not many people get the refugee status. Moreover, even fewer of the declined people are leaving the country (10 to 20% per year). The entire system dwells upon the processing of individual applications, which implies a lot of time and money. On the other hand, the longer the asylum-seekers reside on a certain territory the argument for staying is stronger. Serbia and Montenegro is the country with the highest number of asylum applications in the industrialized countries in the period of 1980-2005. Romania is in the third place right after Serbia and Montenegro and Turkey. The most desired countries for asylum-seeking for Serbs are Germany, Sweden, Norway and so on and for Romanians are Germany, Austria, Italy, USA etc.
