Summary/Abstract: The main problem in the story is that the industrial progress is materializing the soul and the ethical values of the society, namely the French society in the 20th century. Michel Dufrenoy, the main character in the story, tries to fight against the material life of the society. As a beginner poet, he feels that the creative energy is reduced due to the miscommunication with such society. The reduction of energy and its impact is the phenomenon of "entropy" that appears in the literary narration of the story.
