Summary/Abstract: The article offers a historical and cultural analysis of portrait elements from Dostoevsky's novel Demons, proceeding from the symbolic fullness of details, for the reading of which requires the involvement of additional contexts, in particular, etiquette and everyday ones. Examples of significant use of costume details and accessories by other Russian writers (Pushkin, Lazhechnikov, Turgenev, Melnikov-Pechersky) are identified and analyzed. The author comes to the conclusion that the use of cultural and reflective resources is one of the strategies of portraiture in Dostoevsky's artistic anthropology.
