Summary/Abstract: Reterminologization represents an active semantic process of forming specialized languages of different scientificand technical fields and disciplines. In this process, a term from a certain specialized language develops new meanings either in the languages of disciplines from other fields of reference, or in the languages of other disciplines in the same scientific field, or in the specialized language of the same scientific discipline. From the perspective of reterminologization, sports language is of particular interest, because, on the one hand, it contains a considerable number of terms coming from various specialized languages, and on the other hand, it serves as a source of enrichment of the terminologies of other scientific fields. In addition, within the sports terminology system there are numerous polysemantic terms, arising as a result of reterminologization. In the present article, an analysis of the main visions regarding reterminologization as a linguistic phenomenon is performed, a classification of the types of reterminologization is proposed according to the opposition of emitting domain / receiving domain (trans-domain / intra-domain reterminologization) and the opposition of emitting discipline / receiving discipline (trans-disciplinary / intra-disciplinary reterminologization). It is illustrated the migration of terms in both directions: both from the languages of other fields / disciplines (military art, mathematics, architecture and constructions, technical or artistic fields, medical-biological sciences, law, etc.) in the sports one, as well as the ingress of the sports terms in other languages (technical, medical, information, etc.), is exemplified the resemantization of sports terms in the process of intra-domain reterminologization. It has been found that reterminologization is based on relationships of similarity and logical contiguity, in other words, semantic mutations (metaphorization and metonymy) represent the main reterminologization techniques in Romanian.
