Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the evolution of our information security curriculum with the introduction of a network security course that emphasizes the interplay of different security mechanisms. The course follows a systems engineering approach that integrates the policies and functional requirements of an enterprise and includes consideration of issues, constraints and objectives such as organizational structure and competitive, legislative, regulatory, criminal and market drivers. The new course includes the role of cryptography in network security, network architectures, available security mechanisms by protocol layer, network application security, operations, administration and management of security services and mechanisms.
