Summary/Abstract: The author of the article raises the question whether “Król Ladawy” (“Le roi de Ladawa”) should be interpreted in the context of romantic irony or should it rather be regarded as a modification of the Sternean tradition. There are several strategies used by Słowacki in “Król Ladawy” that are usually considered to be characteristic for romantic irony. However, it is worth noticing that many of them appear also in Sterne's works, but they serve different purposes. The author of the article analyzes such strategies and their function in Słowacki's work.
