Османски барутни складове (барутханета) в България

Author(s): Lyubomir Mikov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The analysis of the baruthanes under investigation here gives ground for the following conclusions: firstly, almost all baruthanes are built in the nineteenth century as gunpowder depots or powder-kegs with the specific architectural design (the state factory for refined saltpetre nitre in Razgrad being an exception in this respect); secondly, the location of these baruthanes follows the politic of decentralization implied by the Ottoman powers for the building of baruthanes out of the Bulgarian lands; thirdly, the baruthanes which were built were most probably connected with the provision of gunpowder for the Russian-Turkish wars in the nineteenth century.

Задругата на майсторите: икономически предизвикателства и политики на културното наследство

Author(s): Nikolay Papuchiev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The article is an analytical attempt in investigating the cultural policy in Bulgaria after 1944. The main accent is put on the Zadruga na maystorite na narodni hudozhestveni zanayati (Fellowship of Masters of Folk and Art Crafts – FMFAC), established in 1967 as one of the main instruments of preserving and development of traditional crafts production in the country. FMFAC is studied, on the basis of plentiful documents and public records, not only in the context of cultural policies, but also according to the main principles of centralized socialist economy.

Кральо-портальо – една детска игра?

Author(s): Elena Savova–Tsolova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The object of analysis in this work is a child’s game which is widely spread throughout Europe. Special consideration is given to the variants of the game which include the following moments: two players form a double bridge /gate with their raised arms; the other participants go beneath the raised arms while holding on to each other’s clothes or waist; one by one the players are held back and are required to say one of the passwords suggested by the players forming the bridge /gate; the game ends with a tug-of-war between the two teams. Based on a detailed analysis of the playing of the game, as well as on some peculiarities of the texts related to it, a conclusion can be reached that this type of game is a successor of the ritual combat, typically performed during season change or in the beginning of the New Year.

Както се казва, в днешно време да ти е драго да те нападне таласъм

Author(s): Maria Dimitrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The text analyses the spread and the popularization of the Halloween holiday in Bulgaria. The invasion of foreign models and patterns, their quick adaptation to the contemporary urban environment is at the core of the discussions about the celebration of the foreign holiday, as well as in the discussions about the traditional, “ours” and “theirs”, urban and village, eastern and western, moral and satanic, etc. Is Halloween a holiday on Bulgarian grounds, how and to what extent the traditional holidays of the other nations can be emulated by the Bulgarians, does the Bulgarian mentality also experiences the foreign holidays as sacral, does it internalize their meaning and symbols or does it simply understand them as rejoicing – these are part of the questions discussed in the text. The analysis of the comments in the Internet forums, blogs, events, articles and sites, as well as the interviews with schoolchildren offer different points of view to these problems, connected with the contemporary individual approaches to the traditional – both native and foreign, as well as to the creation of festive events or experiences, disseminated as marketing products.

Защо смятат чехите във Войводово за немци?

Author(s): Marek Jakoubek / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The text represents a contribution to the study of Vojvodovo, the Czech village in Bulgaria. The author attempts to answer in his analysis the following question: why so many Vojvodovo Czech Protestants chose as their marriage partners among the inhabitants of the nearby village of Bardarski Geran, both Banat Bulgarians (Paulicians) and Banat Swabians. In both villages religion was perhaps the most important organizational principle, religious endogamy being one of its main rules. As a result of that it might be expected not of find intermarriages between Vojvodovo and Bardarski geran, but the opposite, however, was the truth. The author shows that the reason, because of which the members of the two communities felt a kind of mutual affinity, was culture as both groups shared many cultural traits. One of these cultural traits was deep and genuine religiosity, or, better to say, belief. Thus, though at the first sight it is religiosity (seen as the creed) that seems to prevent any closer contacts between the two communities, it is religiosity (seen as belief) that stands behind the surprising and unexpected number of marriages that took place between the members of the two local communities

Семейството през призмата на Дома за стари хора „Свети Василий Велики“ в Пловдив

Author(s): Petya Petrova-Angelova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2015

The following article focuses on the issue of the nuclear family and the way in which it is accepted by the extended family. Basing myself on observations and information gathered among the occupants of a nursing home, I suggest that the present situation brings forth the nuclear family consisting of a mother, a father and a child/children, but also including the grandparents who seek their place, part and status. Thus I investigate the transformation of the model according to which the children have always been obliged to look after their elderly parents according to the written or unwritten rules. I consider my interlocutors as members of a community very similar to the family based environment. In addition, I presume that this is partially connected with the dissent between the expectations of one of the generations and the possibilities of the other one. Further I analyze the idea of taking care within the family as well as the model of parent–child relations within the institution, stating that the latter is based on emotions like shame, fear and guilt.

Ergonomics: A Tool for the Liberation of Man

Ergonomics: A Tool for the Liberation of Man

Author(s): Fernando González Casado / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2014

Since the creation of the world, man has developed a series of activities that distinguish him from other living beings. Since antiquity, philosophers have pondered about what is man and his role in nature and in the world. My argument is based on the choice of ergonomics as an intermediate and better point in the framework of human enhancement.

Podróże w czasie jako zagadnienie filozoficzne

Podróże w czasie jako zagadnienie filozoficzne

Author(s): Artur Przechowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2014

Time travel is a relatively recent field of rational inquiry. Before the twentieth century the physicists and the philosophers did not focus on this issue; time travels were regarded as the pure science-fiction. It was empirical success of Einstein’s general relativity that made them a subject of study in theoretical physics. Physically plausible models of time travel become an important topic of inquiring in philosophical discussion on the nature of time, free will and personal identity. The very concepts of „time travel” and „time machine” need to be precisely determined. However defining them experiences several difficulties in both the philosophy and the classic relativistic theory of gravitation. The preliminaries lead to paradoxes or a specific conceptualization of personal identity; our Universe seems to observe additional principles called „consistency constraints”, „cosmic censorship” or „chronology protection” which preclude time travels. The topological features of the space-time which operates on so called „Thornian” time machines entail „no-go” theorems in relativistic theory. The aim of this article is the demonstration of these difficulties as genuine philosophical problems, and especially the formulation of an ethic objection to the presentistic variant of time travel.
