In recent years there has been a particularly large migration pressure on Europe. Geopolitical instability close to the continent triggered a huge wave of refugees, which unexpectedly reached the politically divided European Union. Although the phenomenon is not new, it is associated with a lot of conflict of interest. Different solutions from the EU and the Member States only tackled the situation in the short term, but the problem will continue in the coming years. Taking into account the global ecology and demographic processes, the proper management of migration is one of Europe's major challenges in the coming decades. Estimated immigration numbers can, however, increase considerably in the future. In addition to wars, ecological changes have a huge impact. Lack of water can be even more pressing in the yearsto come, asthe phenomenon currently affects two billion people, and this numberislikely to increase asforecasted. Global climate change is another source of difficulty, which accelerates environmental problems and indirectly contributes to migration processes

In this short piece, we argue for a fundamental reconsideration and reorganization of knowledge production. Intellectual and cultural inequality are part and parcel of socioeconomic inequality. How can we create a better world if we are not clear about the premises behind the knowledge that we have about that world and how it is produced? We need to look carefully at what is silenced and what is said out loud; at what is obscured, hiding in plain sight, or given centre stage. Not only is the task at hand to see clearly what comes into view when these embedded assumptions are excavated. It is also to create new words, new methods, and new institutions that do not repeat the same mistakes. It is a plea to train the next generation differently, so they are prepared to chart a new path toward producing, classifying, and using knowledge in more constructive and inclusive ways.

In this paper, an analysis of narratives about the archive and archival material in the public space uncovers the political and ideological layer connected to identity politics present in the archive, which is in opposition to the seemingly neutral position of the archive as an institution. The focus is on the production of emotions through these narratives, which participate in the collective identification process and which antagonize the social field. This paper examines how UDBA files, as objects of different narratives in public and political spaces, participate in (re)constructing Croatian national identity (as a collective body) and in creating constitutive norms of memory and history by producing emotions (pain, suffering, love, hate). Emotions are used to give value to the identification markers of "Yugoslavism" and "Croatism", thus establishing them as a binary opposition and (re)articulating the Other (the "enemy") as a "Yugoslav" or a "Commie". The analysis shows how in this process, various ideological fantasies that structure social reality are also constructed.

Research in former socialist countries, including Croatia, has shown that women's opinions and perspectives on their past in the former political system are more positive than men's. Accordingly, women evaluate their current situation as being worse than it was in "the former communist system", and they are more likely to support left-wing political parties. A reading of the three Yugoslav women’s magazines from 1946 to 1975 reveals the range of representations and creations of working women, suggesting possible references to contemporary nostalgic and/or critical testimonies.

This paper analyses Kolos s Jadrana and Berge Istra, two documentary movies filmed in 1972 at the Uljanik shipyard. Their theme is a christening: the launch and the joining of the stern and bow of the MS Berge Istra, the largest and most complex vessel ever built at an Adriatic shipyard. Such a technical and professional success contributed to a disregard of the building crew’s daily experience as well as a disregard of the problems encountered during the vessel’s construction. Barring a few rare but significant departures, the content of these films is thus almost completely dedicated to ideal representations. However, Godine hrđe, filmed in 2000 in the same shipyard, depicts a completely different reality. In this documentary, the difficult everyday life of subcontracted workers completely overshadows discussion of the vessel – a vessel that, if successfully built, would have brought the workers a great deal of satisfaction. Along with analyzing the distinct politics of representation in films from different periods, this paper argues for the complementarity of these films.

In this paper, the authors discuss possibilities for development in rural areas belonging to the City of Dubrovnik. The purpose of the paper is to determine the challenges farmers face in both their work and their everyday lives and the prospects for development in their local community. A field study was conducted in May 2016 through surveys and semi-structured interviews of 53 farmers in villages and other settlements in rural areas belonging to Dubrovnik. The authors determined three complementary development objectives: diversification of rural activities, which is also connected to applications for EU funds; establishing cooperatives and developing cooperative-based means of collaboration; and transitioning to organic farming. In the analysis, the authors undertake a critical consideration of development obstacles to all three developmental aspects and suggest a means for potential for development to be used to benefit the local community. In accordance with neo-endogenous rural development, the authors conclude by presenting proposals for rural development that would go a long way towards a socio-economic integration of the City of Dubrovnik. The authors also emphasize obstacles within the local context that are standing in the way of this path towards development.

This article analyses the proposal to include trading at farmers' markets as an element of intangible cultural heritage in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia. The first part outlines the broader context of how the idea of nomination came about, along with a re-examination of how the public perceives the term heritage in Croatia, and the elements by which farmers' markets – the perception of which has an unavoidable material aspect (space, goods, money) – are recognized as intangible heritage. This is followed by a critical look at the central points of inclusivity in the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage: the variety of ways in which heritage can exist and the forms through which it can manifest itself, as well as the central role this document assigns to communities as the creators and guardians of heritage. Based on this, the last part consists of an analysis of the application for including trading at farmers' markets in the national list. This analysis is focused on the issue of the community and its representation, i.e. the issue of the repercussions that obtaining heritage status can have on communities and culture, primarily in light of the proposed "safeguarding measures".

This paper is about the young entrepreneur as an emerging social agent in contemporary Slovenia. Young entrepreneurs are affected by both an ideal sociality of entrepreneurial ecosystems and the small scale of their environment. This paper argues that while the former is promoted as a tool for strengthening local communities and a means of moving toward a prosperous future, the later prevents its actualization but provides security for young people. Family and other established social relationships are of considerable importance for maintaining young entrepreneurs' careers.
