Integrating Information Gain methods for Feature Selection in Distance Education Sentiment Analysis during Covid-19

Integrating Information Gain methods for Feature Selection in Distance Education Sentiment Analysis during Covid-19

Author(s): Syamsu Rijal,Pandu Adi Cakranegara,Eka Maya S.S. Ciptaningsih,Putri Hana Pebriana,A Andiyan,Robbi Rahim / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The disparities in access to public assistances between rural and urban areas are analyzed in this study, corresponding to the intensity in which the constructs are related to expected quality, perceived quality and perceived value as influential factors in citizen satisfaction and loyalty. In Guayaquil, a survey is carried out at the household level, 428 valid questionnaires are obtained in the rural area of Tenguel and 521 Valid questionnaires in the urban area of Tarqui, applyingto the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The research used a Structural Equation model (SEM) to evaluate the hypotheses raised, if they observe significant differences in citizen perception between inhabitants of urban and rural areas about the quality of community services, this as a determining cause in the level of citizen satisfaction and loyalty to choose their municipal authorities. The multigroup analysis allowed to identify inequalities in the observation of the quality of municipal or local communityassistances between rural and urban areas; the findings are considered to local public administrators for the design of public policy aimed at improving levels of citizen satisfaction and loyalty.Sentiment analysis is a way to automatically understand and process text data to figure out how someone feels about an opinion sentence. If there are too many reviews, it will take a lot of time and they will start to be biased. Sentiment classification tries to solve this problem by putting user reviews into groups based on whether they are positive, negative, or neutral. The dataset comes from Drone Emprit Academic. It is made up of tweets with the words "online learning method" in them, with as many as 4887 data crawled from them. Information Gain and adaboost on the C4.5 (FS+C4.5) method are used in the feature selection method. We use feature options to get rid of bias and improve accuracy. The results of the experiments will be compared to other algorithms like C4.5 and random forest. Based on the results, the accuracy of the two standard decision tree models (C4.5 and random forest) went up from 48.21% and 50.35% to 94.47 %. The value of how accurate it was went up by 44 percent. The FS+C4.5 model, on the other hand, has an RMSE of 0.204 and a correlation of 0.944. So, adding the feature selection technique to the sentiment analysis of bold learning education can make the C4.5 algorithm even more accurate.

THE DIFFUSIONIST-EVOLUTIONIST MODEL OF E-LEARNING DEVELOPMENT

THE DIFFUSIONIST-EVOLUTIONIST MODEL OF E-LEARNING DEVELOPMENT

Author(s): Petar Jandrić / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2012

This paper explores development of the discipline of e-learning. It develops the evolutionist model of e-learning development and compares it with the diffusionist model of e-learning development. Using transdisciplinary research methodology, it develops the diffusionist-evolutionist model of e-learning development. The diffusionist aspect of the model concentrates to practical issues such as introducing e-learning into educational institutions. The evolutionist aspect of the model concentrates to theoretical issues such as comparative studies of historical developments. On such basis, the diffusionist-evolutionist model provides a single practical framework for describing small-scale and large-scale e-learning development. Following methodological restrictions, the diffusionist-evolutionist model does not reflect any natural principle. As a research principle, it only aims at improving our current descriptions of e-learning development.

Factors of Students’ Perceived Satisfaction with Distance Learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic

Author(s): Slađana Zuković,Dušica Stojadinović,Senka Slijepčević / Language(s): English Issue: 22/2023

Bearing in mind the specifics of the educational process in the online context and the factors of satisfaction with this type of teaching in a crisis, the paper presents the results of research aimed at examining student satisfaction with distance learning in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic. The research was conducted on a convenient sample of 505 students in the second cycle of primary school education in the Republic of Serbia. A modified version of the Technology Acceptance Model (Davis 1989) instrument was used for the research. Using factor analysis, we identified two subscales (Attitudes towards distance learning and Motivated behaviour) for which we established criterion validity. The obtained results for the entire scale showed that the respondents moderately positively assessed the factors of satisfaction with distance learning, while female students and respondents from two-parent families rated satisfaction with this aspect at a higher level. The analysis of the differences in the answers obtained concerning the measured socio-demographic variables showed that the answers on the subscale Attitudes towards distance education of the child differ concerning the birth order in the family. On the subscale Motivated behaviour differences were determined concerning gender, school achievement and family structure. In addition to the research limitations highlighted in the paper, the results generally suggest that strengthening the sense of personal control and self-regulation is one of the more essential ways to improve satisfaction, motivation and intention to learn during distance learning.

Doprinos razvoju digitalnih kompetencija vaspitača – praktična primena Geogebre

Author(s): Duška Pešić,Marta Dedaj,Aleksandar Pešić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 22/2023

Introducing basic mathematical concepts is often seen as a challenge for preschool teachers but with the improvement of multimedia technologies, potential difficulties can be overcome and the quality of educational activities can be significantly improved. In that sense, the availability of a non-commercial, dynamic, open-source mathematical software package – GeoGebra can encourage preschool teachers to explore a wide range of mathematical concepts with children through an integrated approach to learning. This paper presents the procedure of creating a dynamic illustration in GeoGebra as a tool in the process of developing the mathematical concept of the cardinality of a set in children. The case study was conducted in the preschool institution “Svitac” in Sremska Kamenica. Anecdotal records showed that introducing carefully designed application games (activities in GeoGebra), with an emphasis on analyzing, concluding, creative and critical thinking, to 4-6 year-olds represents an effective way to learn new concepts about the number and properties of the elements of a set.

Rutine i emocije nastavnika kao strukturacijski element obrazovnog sustava tijekom nastave na daljinu

Author(s): Đurđica Degač,Jana Vukić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2023

The sudden transition to distance learning in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic required teachers to adjust by creating new teaching routines. This process was accompanied by complex emotional experiences as they tried to live their professional and personal lives. To point to the importance of maintaining routines for the sake of ontological security and social integration, and the relevance of emotions during distance learning, we utilise Giddens’ theory of structuration, focusing on routinisation and regionalisation of interactions, and Turner’s analysis of integration processes and the role of emotions in them. We examine (i) how teaching routines were shaped and regionalised and (ii) what positive and negative emotions teachers experienced during distance learning in interactions with various actors. In the paper, the interviews conducted in 2020 with 32 subject teachers were analysed using deductive-inductive thematic analysis. Three themes were constructed; the permeation of the public sphere in teachers’ personal space, the establishment of routines and emotional experiences, including sub-themes. This paper indicates that the preservation and creation of new routines and (positive) emotions and expectations in interactions are a potential that can enable overcoming crises or challenging situations such as distance learning, sometimes in such a way that the demarcation between the public and private spheres is violated. On the other hand, the appearance of negative emotions and long-term negative emotional states at the micro level indicate, from teachers’ perspective, inadequate valorisation of their work by higher institutional levels and represent a potential for disintegration processes.

Author(s): Rizza Ann Cruz,Zainee Waemusa / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Computer-mediated communication (CMC) via Facebook as social media could support a relaxed and non-threatening learning atmosphere, augmenting EFL learners’ engagement through increasing social interaction. To maximize the potential of CMC for English language learning outside of classroom activities, an understanding of communication flow through the lens of Social Presence indicators using Facebook group chats is needed to measure such indicators among EFL learners with a limited access to the real-life use of English. This can help enhance the quality of learning through rich interaction and increased engagement among them. The purpose of this paper was to identify Social Presence indicators used by these EFL learners in their Facebook group chats. The data were collected for eight weeks from 52 Thai undergraduate students taking an English for Conversation course in a Thai university. Using the Social Presence categories by Rourke et al. (1999) and Swan and Shih (2005), quantitative coding was used to analyze the exchanged Facebook group text messages. The results showed that the Interactive Category garnered the highest percentage compared to the Affective and Cohesive Category, suggesting that CMC with Facebook group chats engendered relationship building and sustainability among Thai EFL learners with CMC community members. Pedagogical implications are discussed on the significance of Social Presence for developing an effective CMC environment on Facebook among EFL learners.
