The aim of this article is to present the scholarly activities of Professor Edward Włodarczyk (1946–2021), a renowned expert in Pomeranian history and culture, historian of the economic history and maritime policy of Prussia, on the example of 159 selected academic publications. They have been subjected to analysis by the use of selected methods of descriptive statistics and social network analysis (SNA). The at- tributes of bibliographic items have been examined and the links between them visual- ized with the use of Gephi software. The results of the research have been used to brief- ly present the scholarly profile of E. Włodarczyk; they also serve the organisational purpose. A catalogue of key words (phrases) has been compiled, and the characteristic features of publications, complete with their numerical development over time, pub- lication strategies, and main and side research directions have been established. The research shows that the scholarly and publishing activity of E. Włodarczyk was subject to certain changes over time. The most intense scholarly activity occurred in the 1990s, which was accompanied by a change in the manner of publishing. The professor’s scholarly activities centred on Szczecin, Western Pomerania and the Baltic provinces of Prussia. For this reason, E. Włodarczyk preferred particular journals, and also cared about communicating research findings in German and English (17.6%). The major- ity of his papers concerned the economic development of sectors and branches of the economy and were related to the second half of the 19th century (until 1918), yet over time they lost in quantitative terms and importance in favour of the papers that dealt with maritime policy, regionalism, urban history, and other issues.

“Zapiski Historyczne” is one of the most important historical journals in Poland, and its distinguishing feature is the focus on the history of the Baltic Region, as well as an insight into the achievements of international historiography with respect to this area. The internationalisation of the journal through the publication of articles by for- eign authors is associated with the period when Marian Biskup (1922–2012) was the journal’s editor-in-chief (1958 to 2003). The first articles by foreign authors were pub- lished in 1962–1963, and in 1968 “Zapiski Historyczne” became officially a journal of international acclaim. This phenomenon has been present in the existing literature on the subject, notably in articles published in connection with successive anniversaries of the journal. On the one hand, the article presents a compilation of articles by foreign authors during M. Biskup’s tenure in the journal, complete with the analysis of these articles in each period, and on the other hand, based on the scientific enquiries in ar- chival materials (written by M. Biskup, the files of Toruń Society of Arts and Sciences), an attempt was made to capture the main aspects of the internationalisation of the journal: the extent to which it was a conscious and consistently implemented concept, the mechanisms of obtaining texts (based on M. Biskup’s international contacts), as well as editorial, organizational and communication problems that were encountered in the translation and processing of texts by foreign authors.

Radim Palouš diplom a titul docenta.
