Južni Sloveni u Kongresnoj biblioteci u Vašingtonu

Južni Sloveni u Kongresnoj biblioteci u Vašingtonu

Author(s): Predrag Pajić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2005

Under Which King, Bezonian? Experimental Philosophy Versus Thought-Experiment

Author(s): Christopher Norris / Language(s): English Issue: 34/2011

In this essay I present a critical review of the current debate between partisans of two, on the face of it sharply conflicting present-day movements of thought. On the one hand are ranged the thought-experimentalists, or those who uphold some version of the ‹armchair› philosopher’s traditional appeal to truths of reason or a priori grounds of knowledge. On the other are found their more empirically-minded opponents who urge that we abandon such delusory ideas and instead practise a very different form of ‹experimental philosophy›. This latter is conceived very much on the model of the social sciences and involves a survey of opinion on various topics conducted across a sample group of respondents including, though by no means restricted to, the community of expert or specialist philosophers.

Heldenplätze voller Fragen

Heldenplätze voller Fragen

Author(s): Pál Kelemen / Language(s): German Issue: 1/2000

Przestrzeń publiczna do tworzenia

Okupacja jako sztuka. Przestrzeń publiczna do tworzenia

Author(s): Dorota Ogrodzka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 109/110/2012

Taking the Occupy Wall Street protests as a point of departure, this project attempts to find a formal affinity between art and this type of occupation. The analysis also encompasses ACTA and the commotion surrounding the squats in Warsaw. This type of action creates unity through performance. All kinds of “-isms” (feminism, postcolonialism, etc.) form a background for the protestors’ statements. According to the artist, this is where the political joins the artistic. Public space as art, as an ephemeral, performative act, stands in opposition to the notion of art as public space.

Przyczynek do biografii ostatniego administratora apostolskiego diecezji kamienieckiej księdza Jana Świderskiego

Przyczynek do biografii ostatniego administratora apostolskiego diecezji kamienieckiej księdza Jana Świderskiego

Author(s): Witalij Rosowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 32/2011

In the article that is based mainly on archive materials that were unknown until now a biography of Rev. Prelate Jan S´ widerski (1888-1959) is presented. In the 1920s and in the early 1930s he was a leading figure in the Catholic Church in the Soviet Podolia. At that time he had to manage the Kamieniec Diocese that in its borders comprised the former territory of the Podolia Province. Rev. S´ widerski, as one of the few Podolia priests who left Podolia in fear of Bolsheviks returned to his diocese at the end of 1920. He worked in the parishes of Zien´kowce, Won´kowce and Bar, where most Catholics were of Polish origin, and he carried out the duties first of the vicar-general, and from 1926 of the apostolic administrator of the Kamieniec Diocese. Like many other Polish Catholic priests in the USSR he experienced all kinds of insults, persecutions and repressions from the Communist regime. At the beginning of 1930 he was arrested and in the famous trial of a group of Roman-Catholic priests in the Soviet Ukraine he was sentenced to death, which was then converted to 10 years in camp. After he returned to Poland in 1932 as one of the political prisoners exchanged by the USSR and Poland he started work in the huck Diocese in Volhynia. The outbreak of the Second World War forced him to leave the area again. After the war was ended he finally settled in the WKocKawek Diocese, where he worked until his death.

Geographical distribution of poverty In Poland

Geographical distribution of poverty In Poland

Author(s): Paweł Kretowicz,Tomasz Chaberko,Nina Grad,Sylwia Łebek / Language(s): English Issue: 130/2012

Local indicators of spatial association (acronym: L I S A) were used to identify regions of high and low poverty in Poland. Poverty is defined as the percentage of individuals on welfare – mean values for the period 2007 – 2009. Each region was assigned a name based on location. Twelve indices commonly associated with poverty were analyzed – 4 of the 12 describe financial status, next 4 social and demographic diversity, and last 4 the standard of living. The authors considered the selected indexes and the way they indicate poverty in some regions and are not related to poverty in other regions. The paper concerns cities, suburban gminas and rural gminas.
