K některým aspektům sporu okolo spisu Evangelium a církev Alfreda Loisyho
In this study, the author deals with the thought of Alfred Loisy (1857–1940), especially the reasons for his disputes with the ecclesiastical authorities, which ended in his works being put on the Index and eventually in his excommunication. He examines his apologetic work The Gospel and the Church and the subsequent treatise Autour d´un petit livre not only in the context of the time, but also in terms of the further development of Catholic biblical science. In the main part of the study, the author analyses the strengths and difficulties of Loisy’s thought and the main reasons why his approaches, especially redaction criticism and form criticism, to the study of the New Testament and the beginnings of the Church were sharply rejected at his time by the ecclesiastical authorities.

This article focuses on the semantic and pragmatic aspect of specific Greek verb εὐφραίνω in the Gospel of Luke. The verb dominates in Luke especially in the parabolic motif of the feast (12:19; 15: 23, 24, 29, 32; 16:19), in which it acquires some characteristic features that were often overlooked in previous Slovak translations. The aim of this article is to suggest a more accurate and contextoriented translation of the verb in the new Slovak translation of Luke.

The study seeks to answer the question of the relationship between the rejection of God, the rejection of transcendence and the existential situation of man against the background of the play Fly. He also attempts to look into consciousness, which, as a result of the rejection of God, is related only to himself, and to consider how much this consciousness is related to the absolute. Sartre‘s conception of man is provocative, he opposes all forms of passive conformism, he urges man to immerse himself in the dynamic structure of his existence and to accept the responsibility for his choices. Sartre‘s work can also be read as a call to break down false models, as a subject for defending one‘s freedom. The emphasis on personal choice, which is accompanied by full responsibility for one‘s actions, the emphasis on human freedom, has a stimulating meaning. Sartre‘s shortcoming is the generalization and the shifting of the phenomenological level to the ontological one. Despite relatively strong arguments, he commits logical contradictions, which later affect his noetics. His method is to some extent a simplification and a caricature of God. Caricature is an effective and impressive way of expression, but numerous generalizations and simplistic views cannot be avoided. As a result of Sartre, Sartre does not deny, because he relates to non-Christian images of God who escapes his philosophical reflection.

This article deals with John Henry Newman’s account of revelation and the development of doctrine. It is intended as a contribution to the Czech and Slovak debate on Newman’s theological work which was revived after his canonisation in the year 2019. It starts with an overview of Newman’s understanding of God’s revelation (I.), continues with recalling his concept of doctrinal development (II.), and results in a synthesis (III.) presenting possibilities of inspiration we may draw from Newman’s scholarly work for a contemporary re-thinking of questions related to the concept of continual or new revelation. Based on encountering Newman’s thought, the concept of new revelation is critiqued, and a concluding terminological option is made for dependent revelation (instead of continuous or new revelation). This has an important consequence for the complex Christian theology of revelation. Dependent revelation is indispensably rooted in and based on the original revelation of Jesus Christ; it maintains development and includes new insights gained from particular experiences of faith throughout history, on the road towards the final, eschatological revelation. This account of revelation encourages Christians to rethink and experience again that God and human beings as well as time with eternity encounter one another within the Church.

It is clear, that one of the chief characteristics of canonical material, which has be been kept throughout a period of more than two thousand years – not depending on its date of origin – is its “sacred character”. The Bible, the Holy Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church are basic and essential sources in the Church’s life, therefore these are also indispensable bases for canon law as a norm-system which regulates the relations among persons and objects which participate in her very life. In order to interpret correctly these norms, the canonist needs to know – at least on a basic level – the Corpus iuris canonici, including acquiring the meaning and method of the auxiliary abbreviation system. Good routine in the canonical Latin is an elementary presumption by the Code. These indicated capacities were served already by the annotated edition of CIC (1917) which contained the sources of each canon in abbreviated form, and it is true regarding the new Code of Canon Law too. Canon law itself is in a close relation to the pastoral and sacrament-administering life of the Church and its content together with its goal are defined by her funder. This is therefore that stability which among alterations of external conditions signifies the immutability in the historically institutionalized Church’s life.

The principle of personality is one of the key starting points of theological ethics and the basis for other principles that arise from it, and are de facto an elaboration of the Christian understanding of man as a person with the transcendentally grounded dignity of God’s child, God’s image and God’s partner. The article presents the history of theological reflection on the concept of human being and two key models that have emerged in this context in Catholic theology. It also notes the risks of an extreme dynamic relational model of the concept of human being for the principle of personality and many areas of applied ethics, it views the ratio between person and nature, and draws attention to a certain mystery, incomprehensibility and impossibility of defining this key theological concept simply. The aim of the article is to rehabilitate – often neglected – Boëthi’s conception of human person, which should remain a mainstay for dynamic notional models of the conception of person, and to warn against the consequences of extreme relational models for a wide area of theological ethics. In accordance with the renewal of the method of theological work, the first methodological step of the article is auditus fidei followed by the step of intellectus fidei, to which the focus of the work is devoted. The principle of personality is the starting point for a wide range of ethical dilemmas at the level of applied ethics in various goals. That is why the topic is always relevant.

The subject of this paper is to present a broad discussion of the condition of religious art in the second half of the 19th century, conducted in the Catholic press and during Catholic rallies organised as an antidote to the over-secularisation of Europe, including Poland, at that time. According to the definition contained in the Church Encyclopaedia, rallies were conventions, or congresses, of the Catholic circles whose main goal was to “intensify the influence of the Catholic Church principles in areas ofnot only religious but also social, scientific and national life through mutual exchange of ideas”. These congresses, held in various European countries, also raised issues related to the broadly understood religious culture, including art.The first Catholic congress in Galicia took place in Kraków at the beginning of July 1893, and the next one in Lviv three years later. Above all, the two rallies showed how great a problem for the artistic and church circles was the definition and clear delineation of the framework of religious art that would meet not only social expectations but also the requirements of the Church, treating works of art intended for the Church as objects of the highest cult. The sessions also dealt with the problem of proper conservation of numerous historical churches scattered throughout Galicia: inter alia, it was attempted to determine what type of conservation treatments should be introduced into historical churches in order not to destroy their former character.Similar in their intended use were numerous texts published in the Catholic press, with specific instructions on how churches should be adorned so as not to lose any of their sacredness and Christian spirit. Initially, the articles concerned mainly issues related to sacred architecture and artistic handicrafts; later on, texts were devoted to considerations of religious painting and its adaptation to the requirements of the dogma. Other topics included the need to take further action for the continuous dissemination of the state of knowledge about religious art and its history and the need for constant improvement of the level of contemporary church art.

The Liturgical Industry Exhibition “including building and interior decoration of Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches as well as Isr[aeli] prayer hous- es”, known also as the Church Exhibition, was one of the first and biggest exhibitions of the Polish liturgi- cal industry. Its organizers, the Industrial Aid League, adopted the formula of national exhibitions, popular in Europe, whose aim was to showcase the cultural, scientific and technological achievements of a given country and region, as well as to encourage local in- dustrialists to fight against foreign competition. The aim of the exhibition was to open up to different cul- tures and religions. Works of art and consumer goods related to the Latin, Greek-Catholic, Armenian and Judaic religions were presented by over 120 exhibi- tors, mainly from the Austrian partition. The exhibi- tion was accompanied by a brochure The Catalogue of the Church Exhibition, which was sent to the par- ishes and municipalities of Galicia and on request to interested persons.

In 1947, discussion of the „problem of modern religious art” was initiated in the monthly „Znak”. Its participants: clergymen and secular intellectuals – patrons, critics and art historians – as well as artists themselves tried to diagnose the state of contemporary works of religious art, i.e. art in the service of worship. The record of several years of press discussion shows the slow evolution of opinions, from diagnosis of the crisis and belief in the need for the rebirth of religious art to postulates of protection and promotion of modern works of art created in sacred interiors. The discussion is complemented by two exhibitions of contemporary religious art: in 1961 in Kraków and in 1964 in Wrocław. The catalogues and texts accompanying those events illustrate a slow increase in awareness of the needs and achievements in the field of contemporary religious art.

Cardinal August Hlond (1881-1948) and Archbishop Józef Teodorowicz (1864- 1938) are notable representatives of the Polish Episcopate of the first half of the 20th century. They were men of extraordinary abilities, spiritual and intellectual values and organizational skills. As devout shepherds and great patriots, they took an active part in public life. Their letters, which constitute the main subject of this edit, illustrate the comprehensive and multi-layered involvement of both hierarchs in the area of Church and state, as well as their intense mutual cooperation. The article raises a number of issues, mainly concerning the problems of the Catholic Church in Poland at that time, i.e. the establishment of the Catholic News Agency, the work to create the facilities of the Catholic Action and their activities, the Catholic press in Poland, religious ceremonies, the education reform, catechisation, religious congregations, and the work of the episcopacy: the agenda, pastoral letters, activities of individual committees, etc. In addition, the letters provide information on the position of the two hierarchs on the parliamentary elections and the political situation in Poland, and also on the dispute between Archbishop Teodorowicz and the Jesuit Paweł Siwek about the Catholic mystic Therese Neumann of Konnersreuth.

The colophons of the Armenian manuscripts from Crimea that were recently published by Tatevik E. Sargsyan make it possible to put forward a thesis that the 12th-century evangeliary created in Skevra (Cilician Armenia), which is now held in the National Library in Warsaw, was kept in Crimea during the 15th century. At the time it belonged to Simeon, a monk from the hermitage of St. Gregory the Illuminator, next to Saint John the Baptist Church in Otuz, and was later sold in 1422 to its next owner known under the name of Khutlupek. There are no other records of this book prior to those found in Lwów (Lviv) in 1592. Its history before that year remains unknown.

The document The Cape Town Commitment: A Confession of Faith and a Call to Action document is one of the significant documents of evangelical Christianity that briefly addresses many important topics. One of such topics is discipleship. This article traces the theme of discipleship in the document and offers a theological reflection on the content and form of discipleship for contemporary evangelical Christianity. After introductory remarks and first part where the topic of discipleship in the document is addressed, in continuation, the article offers a theological reflection on the topic of discipleship. Hence, the second part discusses content and form of discipleship, while the third part explains the importance of discipleship arguing that discipleship (Matthew 28) is the channel through which God realizes the return of the original creational blessing that was promised to Abraham in Genesis 12. In the conclusion it is pointed out that if we want to take seriously the topic of discipleship from The Cape Town Commitment, the following is needed: a) to understand that discipleship is not after-school or extracurricular activity but a channel through which God wants to spread his redemptive blessing to all nations; b) in our local churches and academic institutions we need to return teaching by example, because various church or educational activities are part of the discipleship, but they are not a supplement for teaching by example; c) to redeem the term „Christian“ in a way that this term is only used for those who are „disciples.“

This article will discuss the issue of the baptisim of the Holy Spirit: what it is, how is it manifested, and what are its fruits. In the introduction, the problem and the questions pertaining to the Holy Spirit baptism are stated together with the thesis that will be tested. The thesis is that the baptism of the Holy Spirit biblically understood as a unique and unrepeatable event universal to all Christians, which happens instantaneously with salvation (when the believer is placed in Christ and joined to his body) and that this baptism is not marked by any immediate and special outward sign. First, this article will present different views on the doctrine of Holy Spirit baptism with historical developments of the views. Then it will deal with biblical data, focusing on all major passages. Special attention will be given to the Book of Acts, and “the second blessing” theology, which is the crux of the doctrine. Then the relation of hermeneutics and experience will also be discussed. Finally, the conclusion and the practical implications of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and biblical admonishments for the Christian life will be given.
