Różnorodna oferta „Księgarni Powszechnej” we Włocławku w świetle jej druku reklamowego z 1913 r.

Author(s): Bernardeta Iwańska-Cieślik / Language(s): Issue: 2/2014

“Księgarnia Powszechna” bookshop operated in Włocławek from 1910 to 1962. Its first director was priest Jan Stanisław Żak who was aware that the success of the bookshop depended on good advertisement of its offer. He initiated publication of book-trade catalogues, starting with two print catalogues with lists of Polish books in 1911. With the support of advertisers next three illustrated catalogues were printed, featuring a wide range of goods offered by a bookshop in provincial Town of Polish Kingdom. Thanks to these prints it is now known that “Księgarnia Powszechna”, apart from scholarly books, popular science books and school books, also offered silver, bronze and plated liturgical objects, clothes and books, canons for the altars, Stations of the Passion, statues of saints made of terracotta and stone material, religious and historical paintings, picture frames, devotional articles, wax candles, incense and much more. The advertising prints show the richness of the bookshop’s offer and its wide-ranging activity.

Колко интернационална е била Мюнхенската художествена академия?

Author(s): Leon Krempel / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2009

The survey evaluates the importance and interprets the participation of many nations, represented in the 19th and 20th century in the Munich Art Academy by its professors and students . The basis of the research are the data from the register books of the Academy in the period 1809-1920 that contain the names of almost 13 000 students . The article begins with a presentation of a detailed statistics of the participation of different nationalities in the artistic life of the Munich Academy. Among those dominate the students from Europe. It is interesting to note, that students from the American continent were mainly of German origin. The non-German students in the Academy came mainly from the eastern part of Europe, the Balkans, Northern Europe and North America . The study offers also a wide view on university art education of that period mainly in Europe but also in America and the accent is on the role of the Academy in the formation of national schools in the arts and in general on its importance for the development of art during this period. Of great importance are the conclusions as to the reasons for applying to study in Munich. These reasons are quite numerous and highly varied but undoubtedly, noted lecturers, such as Cornelius and Piloti had attracted many students outside the country. The disposition of the political powers in the power structures in Europe favored the flow of specific nationalities . To be able to freely depict themes from the national history and episodes of the liberation struggles, for many artists was an important precondition in the choice of place to study . The disintegration of many states, made up of different nations, such as the Ottoman Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Russian Empire, the processes of coming to consciousness and the forming of nations which at this period was quite strong should also be examined as a key prerequisite for the fact that during the second half of the 19th century the Munich Art Academy became a melting pot of nations .

Отново за ръкописното наследство на Смолянския регион

Author(s): Zorka Ivanova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3-4/2008

In 1955 the Ministry of Culture funded a trip of the manager of the Oriental Department at the National Library “St.St. Cyrillus and Methodius”, B. Nedkov to provide with archive documents. He brought from the Smolyan Region 30 manuscripts and some documents. Unlike the documents, the manuscripts received at that time in the Oriental Department have not been presented. Twenty five volumes from the books are in Arab language, 9 volumes are in Ottoman-Turkish, 4 codexes heterogeneous, i.e., Arab-Turkish, Arab-Persian. There are works among them that illustrate diverse spheres of knowledge, characteristic of the Muslim culture and science. The Koran and Koranic sciences, treatises about the Hadith Collections, dogmatic science, law, ethics, philosophy, Sufism, dictionaries and grammars, literary works and calendars. Part of the codexes are collections with heterogeneous contents. There are a couple of anthologies among them, the so called collections – djonk, which are interesting for researchers of literature, linguists and folklorists. It may be noted that among the creative authors we come across the name Ahicelebi – which means he had been connected with the Ahicelebi town – perhaps he was born or lived. Certainly, the materials collected by B. Nedkov in 1955 are a valuable source of information about the history and cultural life in the Rhodopa Mountain and their complete study would allow enriching the knowledge about the history of this region. The information contained in this fund allows expanding our ideas about the cultural heritage throughout the Bulgarian lands.

Пътеписите на Евлия Челеби и османските паметници по българските земи (Сведения за джамии и месджи

Author(s): Nadezhda Yanakieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3-4/2012

The paper is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the birth of Evlia Chelebi (1611). The subject of investigation is the mosques and mesdzhidi within the present boundaries of Bulgarian lands, mentioned in the itineraries of Evlia Chelebi translated into Bulgarian. They are presented in tables by applying the statistical method. The tables contain 10 items: type, settlement, number, date, fondator, architect, brief description, detailed description, and source. “The Itinerary” by Evlia Chelebi contains information on mosques in 57 settlements. Mesdzhidi were separately indicated in 20 settlements. The total number of mosques, included in the tables, is 351, and for mesdzhidi – 56. They have approximately the following distribution: to the north of the Balkan Mountains they are 175 and to the south – 191. In the western and central parts of Bulgaria the mosques and mesdzhidi are mainly located in the big cities, while in the eastern regions – they were built in comparatively small settlements. In the northeastern Bulgaria the total number of the Muslim temples is 65, while in the northwestern part it is 48. In the central areas to the north of the Balkan Mountains, they are 53, as their number is summed from only three towns: Nikopol, Lovech and Svishtov. If Plovdiv is taken as dividing the south of Bulgaria, then the number of mosques and mesdzhidi to the east is 92, while to the west it is 46. The number of temples in Plovdiv (53) is not included in this statistics. The mosques listed by their names are 86, and for a great part of them there is a brief description. The mesdzhidi listed by name are 20. The year of construction is indicated for 9 mosques and one mesdzhid. Seven of the mosques have inscriptions over the door, while two are honograms, deciphered by the author. The mesdzhid is not dated by a source. The fondators of 23 mosques are indicated. Nine of them carry the name of their fondator. The mesdzhidi with an indication of a fondator are two. Only for two mosques the architects are mentioned: Sinan aga, the architect of Ruystem pasha mosque in Rousse, and the great Sinan, the architect of Imaret mosque in Sofia. 9 mosques have a detailed architectural description, 58 mosques and 4 mesdzhidi have a brief description. The major part of the information on mosques and mesdzhidi is translated by D. Gadzhanov, while the remaining part is translated by S. Dimitrov. The data indicated from the itineraries of Evlia Chelebi are compared to statistical data on the number of mosques in the Danube villaette in 1869, published by V. Todorov-Hindalov.

"...és nem is kell hozzá zene", Megismerési stratégiák az antiszemita értekezésekben és Adorno könnyűzene-kritikájában

Author(s): Dániel Kodaj / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 43-44/2001

The article considers whether some of the categories and rhetorical maneuvers used in castigating „popular culture” might be similar (or even identical) to categories and strategies more often found in racist arguments. After surveying sociological, psychological and philosophical explanations for the nature and genesis of anti-Semitic categories (writings by Gordon Allport, Kenneth Burke, Imre Hermann, Horkheimer–Adorno, György Csepeli), the author looks at a number of pre-1945 anti-Semitic texts (by Dühring, Poncins, Hitler and others), and tries to identify their rhetorical apparatus. Through a close textual analysis of T.W.Adorno’s study „Popular Music” (1962), he argues that Adorno uses (1) a similar rhetorical apparatus and (2) an analogous cognitive approach as the anti-Semitic authors when he creates the category of inferior and insidious „popular music”.

"...sondern weiter gwandert durch Ungern, Walachi, Sibenbürgen..." Zum Stand der bisherigen, auf Siebenbürgen bezogenen Paracelsusforschung

Author(s): Peter Mario Kreuter / Language(s): German Issue: 50/2007

Several times in his work Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim, called Paracelsus (1493/94-1541), wrote that he has wandered in his youth through the whole of Europe. Should this be right, the only possible period for this “big journey” could be between 1515 and 1524, the timespan between his doctorate in Ferrara and his first documented appearance in Salzburg. However, like his whole childhood and youth, this lifespan also lies in complete darkness. Only the time between 1524 and 1541 is documented and only 17 of the 48 years he lived through are biographically documented. Paracelsus wrote that he has also been in Transylvania.. Although no official report appeared yet to confirm his presence in Transylvania, his person left tracks in the thesaurus legends. But why do 30 years of his life lie in the dark? What can we necessary generally say about the relation of Paracelsus with Transylvania? Which new attempts are to bring light in the biography of this personality? To all these questions in the article the author tries to find answers

"A marosvásárhelyi zsurnalisztika". Egy vidéki közösség olvasási stratégiája 1884-ben

Author(s): Zsuzsa Török / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 03/2010

Lajos Tolnai had already been a well known writer when as a minister he got to the Reformed Congregation of Marosvásárhely in 1868. He left Marosvásárhely after sixteen years and resigned from his job due to several conflicts and scandals with the locals. The press campaign set up against Tolnai played an important role in his departure. In the history of communication the Tolnai case points out the process in which a rural community eliminates the person who compromises the community's self image transmitted through the local newspapers. The case also points out an example of the usage of literature in society when the interpretation of literary works plays an important role in the communication startegy carrying out an informal decision made by the locals: Lajos Tolnai's elimination.

"AT THIS SITE, A MONUMENT WILL BE INSTALLED": CHISINAU MONUMENTS AND COMMEMORATION PRACTICES DEDICATED TO FORCED SOVIET DEPORTATIONS

Author(s): Kateřina FUKSOVÁ / Language(s): English Issue: 33/2020

The article deals with the politics of memory in Moldova, emphasizing the memory of the forced Soviet deportations from Moldova in 1941–1951. The article aims to analyse contemporary Moldovan politics of memory and discuss it on the example of Chisinau monuments and commemoration practices dedicated to the forced Soviet deportations. As the main theoretical concept for the analysis of the monuments serves Pierre Nora's term lieux de memoire, which is defined as the symbolic elements of the memorial heritage of any community (Nora, 1989). In the article, three monuments are discussed: 'Monument to the Bessarabians massacred by Bolsheviks', 'Monument in the Memory of Victims of the Soviet Occupation and Totalitarian Soviet Regime' and the 'Train of Sorrow'.

The press and journals which are very important for both political and cultural history of Azerbaijan are well known in Turkey and therefore are not used in studies. In this article, based on the work of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences entitled "Azerbaycan Dövri Metbuatı 1832-1920 Bibliyografiya, Bakı 1987", the journals published in Azerbaijan and Georgia in this period are briefly introduced. In the article, it is presented in alphabetical order the journals, their editorials, publisher and journalists and given information about the publishing policy of the journals, the types of articles and the ideological direction. It is reminded to the reader in the footnotes in the text when necessary.

Katoličko zvono sa sahat-kule u Foči u sjeveroistočnoj Hercegovini*

Author(s): Ante Škegro / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2016

From all the lands that they ran over with the hooves of their horses, the Ottomans took not merely slaves, but everything they possibly could. Particular targets for their conquering and looting raids were Christian institutions and churches, where they plundered everything they could carry, even including bells from bell towers. Regardless of the reliefs of Christ on the Cross, the Virgin Mary, saints, and inscriptions that often decorated them, they placed them in their clock towers, if they did not melt them down for cannons and ammunition. First they removed the clapper, instead using metal hammers to strike the outside surface of the bell and mark time, in this manner calling the Islamic faithful to prayer.

"Broń mnie przed sobą samym…" jako modlitwa i kontemplacja Boga

Author(s): Anita Całek / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The article proposes a new approach to read Mickiewicz’s poem "Broń mnie przed sobą samym…" [Defend Me Against Myself…] in the context of meditative prayer and demeanour of contemplating God. Recalling orthodox contexts such as negative theology (apophatic), Christology, the "Old" and the "New Testament", "The Imitation of Christ" by Thomas à Kempis and the "Spiritual Exercises" by Ignatius Loyola, the author shows correlations between Mickiewicz’s poem and Catholic mysticism, offering a counterbalance to the existing interpretations (J. Kleiner, S. Makowski, I. Jokiel, J. Lyszczyna and others) focused on theosophical and heterodoxal themes predominantly.
