Убор из восточногерманского женского погребения гуннского времени Вранья (провинция Паннония II) как социальный маркер

Author(s): Anna V. Mastykova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2018

A female costume from the burial Vranja (province of Pannonia II) is used to examine analogies between the prestigious princely gown and the “ordinary” costume of the Germans of the Middle Danubian region in 400—450s. The women’s garment with small bilamellar fibulae from the Vranja burial is a simplified replica of the “princely” costume with big bilamellar fibulae. The same dress, but, as a rule, incomplete, was also found in other Danubian burials of the Hunnic period, which contained small fibulae. The costume from burials with small fibulae is a “democratic” replica of rich costumes from the privileged Danubian burials of the Great Migration period. Burials with quite complete dresses imitating “princely” costume, such as Vranja, belong to the upper social layer of the “middle class”.

GELENEK/MODERN AYRIMINDA SANAT

GELENEK/MODERN AYRIMINDA SANAT

Author(s): Oğuz Tunçel / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 47/2018

From the 16th century onwards, with rapid progress in science, technology and military, Europe has gained economic superiority by seizing trade and sea routes, staring at the wealth of the East through its colonial activities. With the industrial revolution in the 18th century, the West became more powerful and influenced the societies that were lower than themselves in economic and technical terms. It encompassed backward societies in all political, economic, military, cultural and artistic areas with the promise of “modernizing”. The Ottoman Empire, lost power against Europe, began to question its own civilization due to the regression experienced and saw the solution in the integration with the Western civilization. Although at the beginning, innovations in the field of military and education aimed at exploiting Europe’s science and technology: in progress of time, westernization activities reflected on all social, cultural and artistic fields. Even if all the initiatives undertaken by the Palace leadership have aimed at keeping the Ottomans alive, abandoning traditional institutions of hundreds of years and attempting to bring western-style institutions to their places has not been welcomed by the Ottoman society. In this period, tradition-modernity, old-new, eastern-western discussions gained momentum and public-intelligentsia conflict caused social dualism.

Rysowanie mapy konfliktu

Rysowanie mapy konfliktu

Author(s): Joanna Wowrzeczka-Warczok / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2017

The author analyzes her own artistic experience in the interaction with a phenomenon of conflict. Giving many examples she attempts to describe how the reality of conflict has shaped her own artistic activities and work. All this has created a process, in which the art and the artists have been immersed in a complicated world of the social tensions and problems. It makes the art leave the traditional position, limited to the small academic or artistic environment and get involved in the reality where the roles of the artist, scholar and activistmust be combined. All the interventions in the area of the university and the city, all the issues of wasting common goods, poverty and social injustice, according to the author, allows to build a common language and imagination where trust and responsibility among people begins to operate.

Sanatların Politiklik Derecesi, Sanat Üretimi, Piyasa Mekanizması ve Devlet

Sanatların Politiklik Derecesi, Sanat Üretimi, Piyasa Mekanizması ve Devlet

Author(s): Sacit Hadi Akdede / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2018

The paper investigates the relationship between the methods of funding of arts and the political nature of arts. Firstly, it is explained why state should subsidize the art production according to neo-classical economics theory. Then, various arts are classified and ordered according to their degree of politicness. Arts that depend on more written text and words, such as theater, are more political in nature compared to the arts that do not depend on written text and word, such as classical music. The relationship between art and state along with the relationship between arts and market mechanism is investigated. It is found that state and foundations subsidize the arts with low degree of politicness.

Św. Demetriusz jako pogromca zła w tradycji bizantyńskiej i słowiańskiej (do XV w.)

Św. Demetriusz jako pogromca zła w tradycji bizantyńskiej i słowiańskiej (do XV w.)

Author(s): Justyna Sprutta / Language(s): English,Polish Issue: 1/2018

Evil wins by good, darkness by light and profanum by sacrum in every tradition. The saints, and between them St Demetrius of Thessaloniki too, achieves an analogous victory. St Demetrius was a deacon, but he is most often presented as a soldier for example in art. The legend says that St Demetrius defeated the scorpion (the personification of evil) by the sign of the cross in prison. This saint can also win with the gladiator Lieus, emperor Maximian, tsar Kaloyan or the Turk instead of the scorpion, and he does it on horseback or on foot, with a weapon or by the calcatio gesture. Not only are there historical sources, liturgical texts or belles-lettres presenting St Demetrius, but also art as well as folklore.

The Course Structure, Learning Materials and Tools for Reading Classical Texts and Authors in Contemporary World

The Course Structure, Learning Materials and Tools for Reading Classical Texts and Authors in Contemporary World

Author(s): Miftari Vehbi / Language(s): English Issue: 8/2017

Reading classical texts and authors, whose language is not fully understandable by the children, has become a big teacher’s challenge. The decline of literary reading and the lack of focus in the subject and idea of the text, interrelated to the early culture / identity, influences the lack of reading of the classical books and authors. Therefore, they do not fulfil the principal aims and competencies required by the Pre-University Curriculum Framework. Our article analyses the Curriculum Framework and language and literature course structure. The article concludes that students tend to read classical works more easily if they are offered in abridged versions or with a support of technology. Collections of works and complementary book contents with digital content is the tendency that schools have to accept in the digital era we are living.

Food education: factors involved in food selection

Food education: factors involved in food selection

Author(s): Mădălina Iuga / Language(s): English Issue: 8/2017

There are many factors influencing a food product selection, even if the most known is health benefits. This study describes the effect size of nine factors such as health, mood, convenience, sensory quality, ingredients, price, energetic value, familiarity and ethical aspects. The most important aspect of each factor was also determinated. A questionnaire was applied on a sample of 95 persons aged between 16 and more than 60 years. The summary statistics and the correlation (r>0,2) were applied using Data Analysis pacgake. The results showed that health benefits and the ingredients have the greatest influence, while the convenience and the energetic value were considered as beeing less important in food choice. The well-being, the taste, the natural ingredients, the good price ratio, the low fat content, the eco-friendly package, the fact that the food product can be bought from shops near their house and people ate it before have a strong contribution in food selection. So, it is important to take all these factors into account when we talk about food aducation and food practices.

Author(s): Andrzej Kasperek / Language(s): Polish Issue: 49 (2)/2017

In the article, a broad understanding of counterculture and countercultural resistance is proposed. The author suggests broadening the analyses of countercultural resistance with Romantic resistance and with ecological resistance movements. At the same time, he pays due attention in his analyses to the significance and manifestation of the “Romantic need.” The importance of the idea of nature is also emphasized – the idea which, in the author’s opinion, was taken over by Romantics from the esoteric tradition, only to be subsequently reinterpreted and continued in the 20th-century youth counterculture and in environmentalist milieu/environmentalist circles.
