Библейски текстове и фолклорните им версии
Problems of interaction between two types of culture, ethic, evaluative, cognitive systems, that are Christianity and folklore, are discussed in the article. The main object of discussion are the so called folklore versions of biblical texts, namely oral narratives based on biblical stories, motifs or characters, and developed in conformity with the worldview, ethics and axiology of folklore bearers. Based on common semantic patterns and communicative rules, these texts are linked in cognitive and narrative chains, which form the context, indispensable for their interpretation and, larger, for understanding the nature of folklore bearers’ religiousness. Accordingly, the folklore versions of biblical texts are analyzed in two perspectives. First of all, they are examined as text structures with their resemblance to and differences from the biblical account, with their specific interpretation of biblical characters and events, influenced by the characteristics of folklore culture and ideology. Further on, these narratives, and more precisely, the discourses in which they appear, are studied in order to reveal some significant traits of the way in which religion, viz. East Orthodox Christianity, is regarded and experienced by the bearers of folklore.
