Colloquial standard Czech

Colloquial standard Czech

Hovorová spisovná čeština

Author(s): Josef Štěpán / Language(s): Czech / Issue: 2/2015

Keywords: colloquial standard Czech;common Czech;everyday language

The article delimits the so-called Colloquial Standard Czech as a language variety of the Czech. This variety is to be distinguished from the Common Czech, which is closest to the Colloquial Standard Czech of all the language varieties: through the Colloquial Standard Czech, the Common Czech enriches the Standard Czech. The paper criticises the fluctuation of the concepts of standardness, Colloquial Standard Czech, Everyday Language. The linguistic means of the Colloquial Standard Czech cover all the levels of the language system; in the paper only the syntactic means are mentioned.

The role of neologisms in a shaping of Czech language system (on example of names of persons)

Rola neologizmów w kształtowaniu systemu języka czeskiego (na przykładzie nazw osób)

Author(s): Katarzyna Dembska / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 2/2015

Keywords: neologisms;names of persons;Czech language;Czech dictionaries

The article describes the problem of presence neologisms in modern Czech language on example names of persons. Kundera’s Humor – about a few (not)funny texts

Humor Kundery – o kilku (nie)śmiesznych tekstach

Author(s): Małgorzata Cieliczko / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 3/2015

Keywords: laughter;ridiculousness;humour;comedy;Kundera Milan

The article refers to the phenomenon of laughter present at the chosen writings of Milan Kundera. Admittedly, he combines both artistic and theoretical approaches to the laughter, Kundera (and the author of the article) is interested mainly the first approach, literary one. In Kundera’s books laughter appears in many different ways, therefore author intentionally quotes a lot to give the floor to the writer. Attentive analysis of the citations and whole texts allows her to propose two lines of perception of this phenomenon: as a coincidentia oppositorum (part one: The Antipodes of Laughter) and as a “language”, specific way of communication (part two: »Dia- logues« (full of) Laughter).

Problems of research of the Czechoslovak popular culture

Problems of research of the Czechoslovak popular culture

Problemy badań czechosłowackiej kultury popularnej

Author(s): Robert Kulmiński / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 3/2015

Keywords: Czechoslovak popular culture;Miss Czechoslovakia;Czech literature;Czech film

The beginning of the 21st century gave the Czech reflection on Czechoslovakian culture a new impulse which resulted in many publications and conferences dedicated to this phenomenon. Yet we are still facing an emerging reflection. If we were to disregard singular papers written from the perspective of historical, historico-literary or media studies, the studies of Czechoslovakian popular culture are just starting to develop. In my article, based on conducted research and analyses, I would like to highlight some methodological problems faced by the reflection on the phenomena of Czechoslovakian popular culture which emerges in the Czech Republic, which are the result of the conditions of the communist regime and of – often too overwhelming – Western European and America tradition which offers tools that are not always suited to the specificity of the reign of the centrally planned economy and the Central European space.

Guide in (not)good style. Literature guides – on selected Czech and Polish examples in terms of axiology

Poradnik w (nie)dobrym stylu. Literatura poradnikowa – na wybranych czeskich i polskich przykładach w ujęciu aksjologicznym

Author(s): Katarzyna Chrobak / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 3/2015

Keywords: Czech literature;popular literature;specialist literature;guide;axiology

The purpose of this article is (taking into account the historical aspect, the latest reading research in Poland and the Czech Republic as well as the analysis of the current publishing offer) to illustrate the changes occurring in reading preferences. An attempt to define and analyse the role of contemporary literature of guides, which, especially within the last few years, has dominated both the Czech and Polish literary market, will be discussed here in terms of the social aspect, taking into account the preferences of readers, their perception capabilities and the thematic requirements of the recipient for a specific literature. The historical background of literature of guides in Poland and the Czech Republic aims to show both the continuity of this specific branch of literature over several centuries, as well as a number of changes including conditioned, among others, by fashion, changing the way of life and the expectations of readers, or finally the marketing strategy. The axiological aspect, however, will reveal a wide range of standards and criteria for the evaluation of guides’ literature, among which will be the sender, recipient, subject and language.
