The present paper systemizes the experience of the author as a Fulbright professor at the University of Zagreb. It analyzes the society in transition, in an attempt to include the voices of the future leadership class, the youth of Croatia. The survey was conducted in the spring of 2004, on 400 students from four faculties at the University of Zagreb. The study revealed that the problems that young people face in this transition to adulthood are a function of problems in education, as well as in the economy. For that reason, programs that create an educated, open-minded leadership class among the next generation of youth are the best way to secure world peace, democratic nation building, a strong economy, and thereby protect against brain waste and brain drain and a scientific diaspora.

This research is rather specific, due to the fact it is a part of a broader project entitled Young Family at the Threshold of 21st Century, which is simultaneously being carried out by Moscow State Social University, with the identical survey questionnaire used. Comparative results will be the topic of a separate study. In this paper, we studied the most important characteristics of the way of life of young families in eleven towns of Central Serbia, in the conditions of the transformation of Serbian society, and then we considered how much marital partners were satisfied with their family life, and also what determined such satisfaction. The highest correlation is shown in the interrelation between material welfare, property and conditions of living, as indicators of social-economic condition, and satisfaction with family life, as a social-psychological category. Results have shown that in the omnipresent pauperization the family survives though pressured by the need for survival; it becomes closed in its necessary and imposed dependence, becomes idealized as the supreme value, and satisfaction with family life grows with the family's ability to satisfy existential needs.

The paper discusses the changes in the labour market in the European Union and in Serbia, namely the changes that emerge as a consequence of the adjustment to the social, economic, political and demographic changes in the modern world. The development of new technologies and knowledge economy lays an ever greater stress on the quality of the labour force as a factor of improving an economy's competitiveness in the world market. On the other hand, mass unemployment appears as one of the most important problems of the modern society development. When it comes to Serbia, labour market reform is indispensable for creating the conditions for market economy development as well as for Serbia's successful integration into the EU. The first part of the paper represents an analysis of the EU politics in the domain of employment, changes in the rate of employment and unemployment, and the issue of free labour mobility within the EU. The second part of the paper represents a discussion on the Serbian labour market characteristics, namely, rates of employment and unemployment, informal labour market and labour force mobility. Finally, the discussion focuses on the possible effects of the EU enlargement upon the tendencies in the labour market as well as the process of the labour market reform in Serbia.

The possibility of predicting the quality of love relationships from adult attachment (acquired through contacts with parents in childhood) is investigated. A predictable love relationship could make prevention in the area much easier. The research study involved a total of 180 adults, grouped according to age and sex. Adult attachments were examined employing the Adult Attachment Interview (Main, Cassidy, & Kaplan, 1985), whilst love relationships were investigated using the test of Experience in Close Relationships (Brenan, Clark, & Shaver, 1998). The results of the study suggest a specific, culture-dependent prevalence of some of the attachment patterns. The general finding reveals that there exists a statistically significant level of predictability of love relationships on the basis of attachment quality. The obtained results have been interpreted within the framework of John Bowlby's (1988) and Mary Ainsworth's (1978) attachment theory.

This study has been narrowed down to reveal a paradox. Here the vanguard of culture and civilization - which is regarded as young people of the twenty-first century – is embroiled in a discourse of exclusion: economic, political and cultural life. In secondary school programs and high schools we do not find specific references and studies, primarily based on the needs of students, about the theory of popular culture and cultural education in the area of pop culture. The paradox of exclusion of mainstream culture from educational discourse is schizophrenic. The political exclusion of young people of the XXI century I consider all the disparaging scientific discourse, which skips the actual media and communication competence of young people. Prosumers, cognitarchy, digital natives, C-generation – they are for the modern economy “Silicon Valley” - their market power to exclude is already unstoppable. In other areas it remains to be considered whether excluding young people from the cultural discourse will not deprive our future teachers and translators of the next civilization revolution of social reality...

The studies of differences in language used by males and females appear mainly to have been focused on the spoken word and rarely on writing. This paper examines some linguistic differences that exist in male and female writing styles of Arabic novels. Some classes of lexical and syntactic features that identify the author’s gender are specified. The paper finds significant differences in the frequent use of some features such as colour, tag questions, verb vs. noun in initiating paragraphs, slang, taboo and euphemistic terms. In particular, males tend to use many more nouns in initial paragraphs compared to females who tend to use fewer of this category. Females are more conservative in using sex-related words whether implicitly or explicitly. Females generally speaking seem to be more attentive and more likely to pay specific attention to detail, which in turn influences their style. Finally, a noticeable correlation between the characteristics of male-female writing and the literary genre (novel) is demonstrated. The source material consists of two modern novels written by a male and a female, who are native speakers of Arabic and considered as canonical figures by some Arab and Jordanian critics

In recent years, the migration movement, which tends to be oriented towards Great Britain, reached its climax at the moment when Poland became a fully-fledged member of the European Union. Years following Poland’s accession have witnessed an enormous outbreak of Polish exodus – leaving their own country they were trying to find a new place abroad. Among the plurality of motives, we could point to such as: hope for a better life and improving personal material situation, a more interesting life in a multinational society and becoming a “world man”, necessity and curiosity. Results were also much more complicated than anyone could ever imagine. The causes and effects of the Polish exodus constituted an inescapable subject of analysis and research. The Polish migration movement can be considered in many aspects. This unique phenomenon has its economic, political, social and psychosocial dimensions – each of them is worth profound analysis. Within each of the previously mentioned dimensions a researcher would find singularly important and specific phenomena regarding the migration movement – phenomena which are at the very core of the lives of migrants’ succeeding generations. Undoubtedly, one of the dimensions of the New Polish Emigration analysis could be referred to public diplomacy strategy. This thesis will be the main framework of this paper

The complexity and dynamics of political life leads to developments and reconsiderations in terms of classical theories of constitutional law. Such a process occurs also in the case of separation of powers. Many factors have a bearing on how this theory is currently translated into practice, which requires additional perspectives of analysis in order to develop improved models of cooperation and balance of powers, according to new political realities. This study aims at examining the principle of separation and balance of powers in terms of mutual respect and loyal cooperation between institutions, or, in a broader sense, of constitutional loyalty, an intrinsic value-principle of all constitutions, without which no fundamental law, no matter of how democratic it might be, could function properly2. Based on examination of concrete cases drawn from the case-law of the Constitutional Court of Romania, the study demonstrates that, in lack of constitutional loyalty, the objective pursued by enshrining the principle of separation of powers cannot be achieved effectively, i.e. compliance of public authorities and political actors with constitutional provisions is purely formal and the alleged collaboration between them is a "dialogue of the deaf" at the expense of democracy. The seriousness of the consequences of this type of behaviour requires identification of remedies. What are the limits and what solutions can be identified in this regard are questions that also we aim to answer.
