The work presents the 17th and 18th-century French literary fairy tale (conte de fées) in the context of the salon community and the emerging concept of childhood, as well as the editorial and critical reception, primarily in the form of translations and adaptations, of the texts of this genre (especially the tales by Perrault, d’Aulnoy, Lhéritier de Villandon, Fénelon and Leprince de Beaumont) in Polish literature for children between 1743 and 2018, with regard to the changing cultural, social and ideological context.
