ARTILLERY IN THE RUSSO-UKRAINIAN WAR 2022–2023

ARTILLERY IN THE RUSSO-UKRAINIAN WAR 2022–2023

ARTYLERIA NA WOJNIE ROSYJSKO-UKRAIŃSKIEJ 2022–2023

Author(s): Dariusz Brążkiewicz,Waldemar Perdion,Jakub Karwowski / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 3/2023

Keywords: Russo-Ukrainian war; barrel and rocket artillery; Russian Federation; Ukraine;

The Russian-Ukrainian war that has been going on since February 24, 2022 clearly shows how important it is to have effi cient and precise barrel and rocket artillery with logistical support in the armed forces. The ability to attack the enemy at a distance is a guarantee of reducing your losses in people and weapons in defense or attack conditions. An important aspect is the issue of replenishment of used missiles, i.e. production and purchase, which, as this war has shown, causes huge organizational problems. The subject of this study is the importance of barrel and rocket artillery in a modern, full-scale military confl ict. The aim of the work is to present the artillery of both warring parties, its use and supplementing the artillery of Ukraine in terms of quantity and quality. In connection with the subject of the research and the purpose of the research, the main research problem arose, which was expressed in the form of the following question: What is the importance of modern artillery on the battlefi eld and what are its capabilities and importance in tactical and operational activities? The search for scientifi c solutions in relation to a specifi c main research problem required the adoption of specifi c research problems: 1) what artillery potential did the Russian Federation and Ukraine have at the outbreak of the war, 2) how is artillery used on the modern battlefi eld, 3) how is Ukraine’s support for barrel and rocket artillery and ammunition provided by Western countries. The conducted preliminary research, the specifi c research objective and research problems determined the adopted main hypothesis: Modern barrel and rocket artillery and having a stock of bullets for them is a guarantee of great opportunities on the modern battlefi eld, e.g. by attacking the enemy in direct contact with the troops and at the back. The available materials were verifi ed by analyzing and criticizing the available literature on the subject and facts from the latest press releases.

Travel impressions: Caribbean Sea cruise 2023

Note de călătorie: croazieră Marea Caraibilor 2023

Author(s): Alexandru S Bologa / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 12/2023

Keywords: Caribbean Sea; Dominican Republic; Jamaica; cruise; 2023

The cruise in the Caribbean Sea, aboard the luxurious passenger ship COSTA PACIFICA, under the Italian flag, resumed after the Covid–19 pandemic, was particularly attractive and successful according to expectations. It included, during the trip, the visit of hispanofone Dominican Republic and anglofone Jamaica. The landscapes, the beaches with very fine sand and the very communicative and hospitable populations have marked numerous agreeable moments. The national drink, namely the renowned local rum varieties, could not be missing of course, maybe in competition with the Cuban one, in the opinion of the locals even tastier. Destinations worthy of being explored again with other tourist objectives still unknown.

Women and the Parliamentary Elections in Poland in 2023

Kobiety a wybory parlamentarne w Polsce w 2023 r.

Author(s): Bożena Dziemidok-Olszewska / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 16/2024

Keywords: kobiety; frekwencja; wybory parlamentarne; 2023 r.; Polska

Artykuł stanowi próbę wskazania najistotniejszym czynników, które zadecydowały o rekordowym uczestnictwie kobiet w wyborach parlamentarnych 2023 r. w Polsce (73,7 proc.). Autorki przyjęły założenie, że głównymi przyczynami frekwencji kobiet w wyborach były: sprzeciw wobec antykobiecej polityki rządzącej osiem lat partii Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, aktywizacja polityczna kobiet przez organizacje pozarządowe, a przede wszystkim inicjatywy i kampanie profrekwencyjne oraz podjęcie problematyki praw kobiet przez partie polityczne, zarówno w kampanii, jak i programach wyborczych. Główną metodą badawczą była analiza różnorodnych (raporty, programy partii, artykuły, opinie) źródeł internetowych.

Abortion and the Electoral Campaign in Poland AD 2023

Abortion and the Electoral Campaign in Poland AD 2023

Abortion and the Electoral Campaign in Poland AD 2023

Author(s): Agnieszka Bień-Kacała / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2024

Keywords: abortion; parliamentary election; electoral campaign

Two years after the abortion decision of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal and just after the mid-term election in the USA, there was a calculation that the abortion issue might play a pivotal role in the parliamentary election in Poland in the Fall of 2023. Analysis of the USA election showed that the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision of the Supreme Court of June 2022 and discontent among voters on its result violating women’s rights significantly contributed to the electoral achievement of Democrats. On the eve of the electoral campaign in Poland, there was a hope that a similar trend might occur in the next election and might contribute to the loss of the majority of illiberal rulers. The paper focuses on using abortion arguments within the electoral campaign by competing political parties. The main question is, to what extent did the abortion issue influence the result of a general election in Poland in 2023 and the change of the ruling majority?

Short report on the excavations of the Legionary Bath of Brigetio in 2023

Author(s): Dávid Bartus,Melinda Szabó,Lajos Juhász,Ákos Müller,Helga Rita Olasz,Bence Simon,László Borhy,Emese Számadó / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2023

Keywords: Brigetio; legionary fortress; Roman bath; limes; Pannonia

Since 2015, excavations have been carried out in different parts of the legionary fortress in Brigetio. Due to the systematic geophysical surveys of the praetentura, a large building complex came to light, which could be identified as the bath of the fortress, even before the fieldworks started in the territory. In the area of this building complex, the excavations started in 2021, and continued in the next two years. Now, an approximately 1800 m2 surface of the bath is excavated. During the last season of the fieldwork several heated and unheated rooms and three new (possible) pools and four praefurnia were unearthed. The north-eastern closure of the bath was identified, and parts of the northern apses of the basilica thermarum were unearthed. A huge number of coins and bronze small finds were discovered, and thanks to the brick stamps, some new data have become available on troop movements and military history of the Pannonian ripa.

Return of Illiberalism: The Results of the 2023 General Election in Slovakia

Author(s): Vlastimil Havlík,Jakub Lysek,Peter Spáč,Ľubomír Zvada / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2024

Keywords: Slovakia; elections; voting behaviour; illiberalism; populism

After a general overview of the context of the 2023 general election in Slovakia, the article provides a detailed analysis of the electoral results and support for political parties. Using both aggregate and individual level data, we show that the results were influenced by a combination of long-term features defining electoral support and voting behaviour in Slovakia and a more recent trend including weaker ideological attachment and the increased importance of leadership personality for political party preference. Also, it seems that the illiberal mobilization may be traced in the dynamic of electoral shifts in the context of different behaviour of various societal groups. Moreover, the return of illib- eral actors to power in Slovakia seems to have been characterized by a surge of votes for conservative or populist left-wing forces in the larger Slovak cities. Although this is not reflected in the turnout, at the individual level we can assume that liberal voters turned out in smaller numbers, while Smer voters may have been more mobilized, or some voters may have switched from other populist parties such as OĽaNO.

The 13 July 2023 Amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law Act

The 13 July 2023 Amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law Act

The 13 July 2023 Amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law Act

Author(s): Maciej Rogalski / Language(s): English / Issue: 3/2024

Keywords: conditions for running a pharmacy; license; revocation of license; anti-concentration requirements; validity of anti-concentration requirements.

The article deals with the latest amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law Act, dated 13 July 2023, which is related to anticoncentration restrictions on the issuance of licenses to run generally accessible pharmacies. On 4 October 2023, the President of the Republic of Poland, pursuant to Article 191 section 1 item 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, filed a motion to examine the constitutionality of this amendment. In the motion, the President argued that the amendment intro-duces a new ban on pharmacy market concentration (Article 99 section 3aa of the Pharmaceutical Law), which was introduced in violation of the principle of protec-tion of acquired rights and without adequate vacatio legis. In light of the President’s motion, the subject of this article is an analysis of the provisions of the amendment with regard to the changes involving the addition of sections 3aa and 3ab under Article 99 and sections 2a-2d under Article 103 of the Pharmaceutical Law in order to determine their legal nature, comply with the principle of protection of acquired rights, and to decide whether the adopted vacatio legis period is appropriate.
