I am trying with this short paper to put some ideas about the Romanian transnationalism in Greece to talk about "transnationalism ,diasporas and globalization," three of the most modern words that academics have managed to coin, words which recently appeared in every language. This article is a part of my PhD theses “The Phenomenon of Transnationalism, Romanian case in Greece”. Initially the proposed scope of the research will attempt to draw on the complementary expertise of immigrants coming from Romania. Examining migration patterns of Romanian citizens in Greece, the article suggests that to understand the course of immigration policies and the phenomenon of transnationalism, students and researchers need to include accounts of the practices of knowledgeable migrants, as actors who enact, in both senses of the word, the authorities’ rules and regulations. The Methodology of the research consist in theoretical and practical (on the field) research, 100 Interviews with closed and open-end questions formulated from a questionnaire, face to face in depth interviews, statistical analyses of the data codified and worked in SPSS system.The scientific importance of present research is to contribute to the theories about Immigration in a globalize world.

In the paper author refers to the passage from The Prince of Niccolo Machiavelli, in which the famous Florentine says that there are two kinds of combat: one with laws, the other with force. Author defend the claim that by writing this, Machiavelli opened up a new and still unused way of thinking about nature-culture relationship. A follower of this way of thinking withdraws from saying that nature is surpassed by culture, or that nature is nothing else but a subject of an on-going human speculation, and rebuts the sole hypothesis that what there is, is nothing but nature. Modern Western culture entrusted its key opposition to the nature-culture relationship. By and large, political philosophy is a story about surpassing the nature in order to establish a state under the rule of law. According to Machiavelli, the juxtaposition of nature and culture, the narrative on surpassing by politics the laws of nature, just as well as the narrative on us being stuck in it, are all utterly wrong. Accepting the ambiguity of the opposition between nature and culture and assuming that the social contract is indeed fictitious, author would like to question Machiavelli about his vision of subjectivity and politics in a world where "natural objects" appear to be socialized, and "cultural subjects" appear to be dissocial. In the way author puts the question: does Machiavelli recommend monstrosity by writing stories in praise of monstrosity as it may well seem?

Whether Croatia is in a deep economic crisis or only a sort of recession is an academic question which is not in the domain of my professional competence. But I will try to answer the fundamental question, which is: where do the deep roots of the current crisis lie? My answer is: this is a crisis of the basic political economic model of the transition in Croatia (though some variants of the model are at work in some other transitional countries), which I have termed the Political Capitalism model (PC). Croatian society is now living in a vacuum of social integration. In such a vacuum, there is no room for trust in and consideration of interpersonal relationships. What this lack means for further economic and social development is a rhetorical question. Even an unsystematic observation of social interactions (including everyday behaviour) raises the fundamental question: is Croatian society heading for a state of Hobbesian bellum omnium contra omnes? Or, at least, for one of ‘Hobbesian incivility’?

Often Christian democracy and political catholicism overlapped in many contexts, and this article tries to outline the deceitfulness of the prejudice that Christian-democracy stops at the border of Orthodoxy. Although Christian democracy has catholic origins, this political movement has the capacity of adapting in other geographical and spiritual meridians. In this respect, existing research defines the relationship between two dimensions of the political: geopolitics and foreign policy in the case of a small-sized, medium-power state: Israel. Even though there are various other factors contributing to foreign policy beyond geopolitics, my present aim is to focus specifically on the relation between these two. The main concern addressed is to what extent geopolitical considerations, termed as geopolitical consciousness, influenced the foreign policy behavior of the state of Israel.

Monetary policy transmission: the case of Lithuania

We study the effect of a (standard) monetary policy shock in the euro area on the Lithuanian economy. We employ a structural vector autoregressive model incorporating variables from both the euro area and Lithuania. The model exhibits a block exogenous structure to account for the fact that Lithuania is a small economy. In general, we find that a monetary policy shock in the euro area has a stronger effect on the Lithuanian than it does on the euro area economy, though the effects are not statistically significant, preventing firm conclusions. We further broaden our analysis employing a panel vector autoregression (PVAR) model for the three Baltic states. PVAR model results suggest a stronger impact of monetary policy than that estimated using the Lithuanian model and a quite considerable degree of variation over time in the strength of monetary policy transmission.

From Turkestan to Andalusia Spain, Medieval Islamic cities geographically occupied a wide area, and thus they had left their mark on the medieval era. Being one of these Islamic cities, Cordoba was seized by the Arabs in 711 and the first urbanization activities began upon moving the government centre from Seville to Cordoba. Later on, as the capital city of Andalusia Umayyad Dynasty, Cordoba became one of the most crucial cities of Spain in terms of science, art and trade. In this study, stating the features of medieval Western and Islamic cities, initially, the geographic, politic, economic and philosophic bases that took part in the establishment of the cities will be discussed and a specific focus will be made upon Cordoba city. Afterwards, information about the history, city layout and structure, city administration, socio-economic structure and cultural formation of Cordoba will be presented. This study reveals that Renaissance which is the main output of the European urbanization in medieval era cannot be considered apart from the administrative, socio-economic, cultural and architectural features of the Islamic cities within the context of Ibn Haldun’s thoughts.

In this position paper, we present the results of ongoing theoretical investigation into the phenomenon of “interactive architecture.” Interaction in architecture deals with the meaningful exchange of information and physical acts between building and person. Beyond responsive systems like automated doors, shading systems, and so on, most examples of interactive architecture are technological explorations that probe the possibilities and potentials of interaction. In this paper, we claim that this state is not enough. The focus in this paper is on the design of comprehensive and consistent styles of interaction rather than a series of isolated and unrelated interaction events. Different people in various contexts require different sets of behavior from an interactive building. In turn, these sets are conceptualized as “interaction narratives.” We argue that such narratives can provide a better fit of the interactive building with the user, and lead to more profound understanding of such systems.

The present work deals with the calculation and the analysis of profitability and the effectiveness in the Greek Banking Institutions which are located in Bulgaria during the period of IFRS implementation. Its general goal is to examine the effect in profitability after the implementation of IFRS in the banking Institutions. The use of financial ratios is one of the most widespread and dynamic methods of financing analysis that helps in the interpretation of economic elements of an enterprise, so that it has been selected for this work. It is evaluated the efficiency and profitability for the years before and after the implementation of IFRS in order to have a completed picture of the examined credit institutes. Afterwards, it follows a comparison of the given results for each bank and the export of conclusions.

The article presents a study of the corruption perception and the involvement of SMEs in corruption practices. The main goal of the paper is to provide an analysis of corruption perception of the SMEs representatives, its parts and research methodology to provide an adequate picture and analysis of corruption of the Kazakhstan. For obtaining a comparative picture, we interviewed 500 representatives of SMEs and 500 civil servants. We used a mass survey (face-to-face) method. The results show that the presence of “gap” between perception of corruption and degree of the respondents’ involvement in corrupt practices. The respondents believe that corruption is widespread, but they themselves were rarely involved in corrupt practices. The key message is that the SMEs representatives consider this problem to be acute, but they are not ready to talk about their own experience in this regard.

The text problematizes the interpretations of contemporary history in the context of the world historiography as well as Bulgarian historiography. Special attention is paid to the conception of contemporary history during socialist times in Bulgaria. Back then contemporary history was associated with the Bulgarian Communist Party coming in power and ruling. Most historians examined the early period of socialist epoque during 1944–1948 and until 1958 as to avoid the obligatory glorification of the BCP and its government. Those who studied the period after 1958 were the party historians in the university ideological departments and in the Institute of BCP history. After the collapse of state socialism contemporary history included the whole socialist period. It was examined by state institutions and NGO on the rich archives base and from the point of view of liberal democracy. Now historians tend to avoid studying the transition period 1989–2007 because of the lacking temporary distance and accessible archives. It became the object of political science, sociology, economy and anthropology. A huge amount of such literature was accumulated from 1989 until 2017 and was classified in Catalog of the Literature of the Bulgarian Transition (1989–2007) that can be found in the site of the Institute for Historical Studies. The text analyses 1281 pieces of work of this Catalog thus arguing that history of the transition obtains a solid base to become already the object of the historical science.

Kosovo is characterized as a country with a huge negative trade balance. Low levels of exports and very high levels of imports are characteristics of almost every tradable field in this country. The only field that makes a difference in the trade balance of Kosovo is trade in services. Trade in services is the only field where Kosovo has a positive trade balance, thus this study will offer a better view of trade in services in Kosovo and will discuss and analyse its main characteristics, factors and determinants. This paper will also have a focus on the relationship between trade in services and growth and its main objective to show the impact of trade in services for Kosovo’s growth. The study shows that trade in services has a positive impact in economic growth of Kosovo and in a long period this impact may be greater. This paper will provide findings that will serve to create strategies for expanding Kosovo’s exports in services.

The paper analyses the educational policies in Romania for the period 1948–1989. The purpose is to examine the main features that defined the educational system during the communist period, thus providing the background for a better understanding of the strengths and the weaknesses of education during these years. The paper consists of five distinct sections: (i) legislative reforms; (ii) human, material and financial resources; (iii) access and participation; (iv) educational environment; (v) voice of the pupils and students. Whenever data are available, the paper uses a comparative perspective with other communist countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland), particularly regarding the access to and participation in education. Several achievements in the field of education are present in communist Romania: (i) the positive evolution of participation in education, particularly regarding elementary education; (ii) the campaign to eradicate illiteracy was successful, at least in terms of numbers; (iii) vocational education displayed spectacular increases in the communist period; (iv) the number of students enrolled in higher education increased significantly; (v) expansion of support forms to broaden participation, especially in the higher education system. Nevertheless, there are also a series of negative aspects, such as access and participation of particular groups to education – children with disabilities, children from placement centres, pupils, and students of “unhealthy social origin”. A selection of oral history fragments completes the picture about the educational environment.

Malaysia has become a popular destination for many foreign workers since getting independence in 1957, owing to its rapidly growing economy and industrialisation. Most of the migrant workers in Malaysia are low-skilled or uneducated, and public debate is going on their outcome, whether it is substantial or not. The purpose of this study is to manifest the role and contribution of imported labour to the Malaysian economy. Evidence is collected from secondary sources- journal article, relevant books, and online databases. The review finds that the impact of migrant labour on Malaysian growth has not been studied holistically and sufficiently. Existing evidence shows that although it is somewhat positive, the public attitude is most adverse to illegal and irregular migrants. Therefore, more empirical research is required to determine the role of imported temporary workers on the economy of Malaysia, for its ongoing vision- to become a high-income nation.

The accounting treatment of real estate varies depending on the intended purpose of the acquired property. This paper discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of the accounting standards for treatment of the item investment property according to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Croatian Financial Reporting Standards (CFRS) and the International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (IFRS for SMEs). The theoretical part of the paper analyzes different models for measuring and accounting for investments in real estate according to different accounting standards. Particular attention is paid to the notes to the financial statements. The empirical part of the paper is an extension of the research conducted in 2013 on a sample of quoted companies in Croatia. The analysis of the financial statements of quoted companies shows that they did not disclose all relevant information on investments in real estate in the notes to the financial statements. To determine whether there were any improvements in financial reporting on investments in real estate, we have compared the results for 2017 with the results for 2013.

Historically to ensure unity in a country where religion played a significant role, it was required that the country have only one religion i.e., "the sovereign of the country determines its religion." This politicization of religion led to religious wars within and among the nations of Europe; hence the principle was replaced by one of secularity, i.e. separation of religion from the state. So, today western liberal democratic societies are secular, or in other words, religion is set apart from the state. However, the beginning of the 21st century has seen a re-politicizing o the religion. This trend has been particularly noticeable in the period since the end of the Cold War. The Republic of Macedonia is no exception to this international trend. Under the constitution, the state is a secular one and religion is segregated. This means that the state has no right to interfere in religious matters, nor may religious communities involve themselves in matters of state. In practice, however, this strict division of labor is not achieved in any secular society. In this paper, we shall investigate the interlocking relationships that have come to exist between politics and religious communities in the Republic of Macedonia in the building of the contemporary Macedonian nation. In the paper authors concluded that the process of building the modern nation should continue to occur within the existing cultural matrix, which in itself articulates the values of two civilizations - Muslim and Orthodox. Religious groups, in essence, are calling for peace, tolerance and respect for the "other", which can contribute to building a multicultural society.On the other hand, disrespect and manipulation of religious particularity can adversely affect the building of the sense of a single nation.

The aim of the article is to analyze the symbolic meaning of the name of Havelock Vetinari, one of the most recurrent literary characters in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. The focus of the discussion are the literary and historical associations embedded in his name and his titles, which help the informed reader comprehend the complexity of the character’s behavior in the narratives. The intertextual appropriations and echoes at the heart of the name derive from the author’s multilayered encyclopedic knowledge that underlies the coining of the character’s name. Havelock Vetinari is a noteworthy example of how the invented name of a literary character can become a powerful tool for meaning making in literature. The study is carried out within the theoretical framework of the hermeneutic approach according to which a whole is understood as the synthesis of the numerous parts it consists of and the multifaceted interrelations among them. The analysis of Vetinari’s name is thus conducted as a process of engaging in turn with the meaning of his given name, his family name as well as his official titles of address and nicknames, and looking into the linguistic, historical, and cultural associations they evoke which are correspondent to the nature of the literary character.

Norwegian media and journalism have for some time struggled to cope with the crises brought by digitalisation and globalisation: an increased output and accessibility of free digital media and social media, the loss of readership and advertising revenue of print media, layoffs of journalists and an gen-erally uncertain future of news. Put together these factors could possibly challenge the very foundation ofthe democratic corporatist media system of Norway. As the pandemic struck in 2020, one could expect themedia crises to get even worse and possibly bring changes of a systemic level. But Norwegian media have seemingly handled the pandemic quite well, and the media system has defi nitely not been rocked by it. Possible explanations for this state of affairs: the media’s handling of the pandemic, media policy in the pandemic and the long-term status of the digital transformation of the media, will be discussed here.
