State of Affairs

State of Affairs

Stan Rzeczy

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

As an anti-disciplinary magazine, “Stan Rzeczy” (“State of Affairs”) aims to open up a platform for dialogue between sociology and other disciplines within the social sciences and humanities sphere: anthropology, economics, philosophy, history, literary studies, law, theology etc. As we understand it, an interdisciplinary approach bridges the gaps between narrowly demarcated fields of research as well as combining diverse techniques and research methods. We would, therefore, like to return to a more holistic study of society, offering more elaborate and extensive explanations for social phenomena rather than conforming to certain specialisations designated by research methods or historically embedded divisions between the specific interests of individual sciences.

By providing this platform for discussion, we hope to provoke innovative and unique insights into social phenomena.  We are guided by the outstanding traditions of sociological research conducted at the University of Warsaw and by critical and analytical thinking applied to society whilst committing ourselves to the highest standards of academic rigour. We wish to establish connections and to collaborate with authors from other academic institutions, domestic and abroad. Running parallel to our publishing activities we organise educational activities such as seminars, workshops, debates and summer schools for students and graduates from various social science disciplines.

Studia Socjologiczno-Polityczne. Seria Nowa

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

Chairman of Advisory Board: Jerzy J. Wiatr, Editor-in-chief: Jacek Raciborski, Managing Editor: Wojciech Rafałowski.  Journal "Studia Socjologiczno-Polityczne. Seria Nowa" directly refers to Studia Socjologiczno-Polityczne founded in 1957 by Julian Hochfeld and published until 1968. It will be a traditional scientific biannual open to various strands of social theory, adhering to the principles of sociology and of socially-engaged political sciences, addressing the idea of freedom, equality, solidarity and justice, and relating the diagnoses of social reality to projects of changes. The journal will focus on the phenomenon of political power, which unites different types of communities, including the most important one ‒ the state. Other topics that will be of great interest to the editorial staff are democracy, condition of citizenship and civil society. The issues of the state, democracy, citizenship, civil society will be considered both in normative and descriptive order. The areas discussed in the journal will primarily concern the Polish political system, however the editorial staff will seek to provide comparative studies and theoretical analyses of global processes, as well as to maintain a balance between theoretical articles and those based on empirical research. The journal will be published in Polish, however in addition to the English-language abstracts accompanying all texts, it will include the articles in English, which were originally written in this language.
