The Annual of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an expresion of the urgent need to shape public discourse at a time of destruction of both the physical manifestation of our hereitage and our public systems of education, research, conservation and debate. The annual, entitled Heritage, has serious aspirations to fill the void in the representation, evaluation and preservation of the cultural heritage, as well as the utter lack of responsibility on the part of researchers, conservers and restorers to the general public. At a time when the reconstruction of the tangible heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina following the ravages of war has become in effect a strategic aim of society, the initiators of this periodical express the hope that Heritage will rebuild the view that a frank public representation of theoretical and practical achievements in the field of heritage protection is needed.
