Reč

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Serbia

The Belgrade magazine for literature and culture “Reć” (meaning “Word”), is the most outstanding literary journal of its kind in the Serbian language. It was published monthly and is dedicated to the literary writings of all generations and genres (poetry, prose, fiction and non-fiction, essays, reviews, dramas). It is also open to writers from different cultures and nations. Since 2005 Reć is published as an annual periodical. The first issue of Reć (The Word) was published by Radio B92 on September 15, 1994. With the support of Radio B92, the former editorial board of the highly-regarded literary magazine Knjizevna Reć (The Literary Word) founded Reć. Knjizevna Reć was published at the time by the Serbian Alliance of Socialist Youth (SSOS), but having decided that the editors of Knjizevna Reć had failed to fully dedicate themselves to the achievement of official national interests, the officials of the SSOS replaced the editor in chief and all editors of the magazine. Shortly after, the deposed editorial board published their first issue of Reć. Between September 16, 1994, and February 15, 1999, 54 issues of Reć were published. During that period it was the only literary publication to appear regularly each month. The magazine is widely acclaimed by writers, translators and literary critics as the best literary magazine in the country. As Vasa Pavković wrote, Reć was the best literary magazine Serbs had during the 1990s.
