Jewish History Quarterly

Jewish History Quarterly

Kwartalnik Historii Żydów

Frequency: 4 issues / Country: Poland

Until the year 2000 Kwartalnik Historii Żydów was published as Biuletyn Żydowskiego Instytutu Historycznego. In the years 1949-1950 it appeared as a bulletin in Polish and Yiddish, carrying news about the activities of the Institute. Since 1951, Biuletyn has been published by the Jewish Historical Institute of Warsaw as a scientific journal (initially as semi-annual and from 1953 as a quarterly). Formally, the scope of its subjects was the history of the Jews from the ancient to the most recent times. In practice, however, the focus was on history of modern times and most recent history. Until 1966, the magazine’s editor in chief was Bernard Mark, director of the Jewish Historical Institute. He was succeeded by Artur Eisenbach, Szymon Datner, Marian Fuks, Maurycy Horn (from 1973 to 1990), Jerzy Tomaszewski, Szymon Rudnicki, Daniel Grinberg, Alina Cała and, since 1999, Jan Doktór. Since 2001, the magazine has appeared under the present name, although neither the publisher not the general concept of it have changed. The editors seek to present various aspects of life of the Jewish community in Poland and the neighbouring countries over the ages. A significant part of the articles and source materials concerns the tragic fate of Jews during World War II. Next to articles in Polish, Kwartalnik prints texts in other languages (German and English). The following regular columns appear in each issue: „Studia i artykuły” „Z historii regionalnej” „Dokumenty i materiały” (mostly source materials) „Recenzje i artykuły recenzyjne”. Editor-in-chief: Jan Doktór, Ph.D. Editorial board: Wolfgang Benz (University of Technology, Center for Anti-Semitic Research, Berlin) Dan Diner (Hebrew University, Jerusalem; Simon Dubnow Institute, Leipzig) Jan Doktór (Jewish Historical Institute, Warsaw) David Gershon Hundert (McGill University, Montreal) Gertrud Pickhan (Free University, Berlin) Antony Polonsky (Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass.) Szymon Rudnicki (University of Warsaw) Paweł Śpiewak (Jewish Historical Institute, Warsaw) Editorial office: Eleonora Bergman, Michał Czajka (associate editor), Helena Datner, Jan Doktór (editor-in-chief), Daniel Grinberg, Anna Michałowska-Mycielska, Joanna Nalewajko-Kulikov, Szymon Rudnicki, Paweł Śpiewak, Rafał Żebrowski
