Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne

Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland

The semi-annual journal "Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne" (Church Archives, Libraries and Museums) has been published continuously since 1959 by the Institute of Church Archives, Libraries and Museums at the Catholic University of Lublin.

The aim of the journal is to disseminate research findings on the cultural collections of the Catholic Church; both on the collections themselves and on the institutions holding them (archives, libraries and museums). The journal is also a link between the cultural institutions of the Catholic Church and the academic community.

The semi-annual journal is unique on a global scale, as it is the only periodical that publishes research findings of church archivists, librarians and museologists. At the same time, it prints interdisciplinary works with a focus on history, theology, art history, legal sciences, and cultural, religious and literary studies.

The texts are printed in Polish, English, French, Spanish, Russian, German and Italian.

Archiwa, Biblioteki i Muzea Kościelne (ABMK) is indexed in Polish and international research databases.

The semi-annual journal publishes works on collections created and gathered chiefly by religious institutions, primarily those of the Catholic Church. Following the 60-year tradition, the journal presents studies which focus on church collections, also those currently held outside church institutions – that is, in state institutions and private collections. The emphasis is on studies into the theory and practice of collecting, preserving, and making available these collections. We also print reference articles on archival, library and museum materials of church provenance – for example, catalogues and inventories. In addition, we publish critical editions of sources for the history of the Catholic Church (canonical visits, the books of brotherhoods, chapter statutes, the founding documents of church institutions, etc.). All these works mentioned above are complemented by studies related to the history of the Catholic Church.

Kościół w Polsce. Dzieje i kultura

Kościół w Polsce. Dzieje i kultura

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

Kościół w Polsce. Dzieje i Kultura [Church in Poland. Past and Culture] is a scholarly periodical prepared and edited by the Institute of the History of the Catholic Church, the Catholic University of Lublin (Faculty of the History of the Church in 19th/20th Century). Established in 2002, this annual has been published on a regular basis (in spring every year) ever since; its most recent volume was issued in April 2011. The periodical’s founder and Editor-in-Chief is the Rev. Professor Jan Walkusz, PhD.

The periodical publishes studies, articles and materials, each volume being monothematic but all discussing various facets of the Church’s active participation in public life. Disclosed are not-quite-well-known forms of the Church’s involvement in Poland, defining its identity, specificity and versatile dynamism which is subject to religious consciousness as a broad concept. All the contributions published in Kościół w Polsce are original and of a source or reference character and as such touch upon questions or issues not investigated so far in depth, controversial, or purposefully omitted by scholars to date. Once published, not only do they contribute to enriched knowledge on ecclesial histories, at times complex as they were, but primarily to rendering more specific many a commonplace opinion that would not always have reflected the reality. Moreover, each consecutive volume comprises an updated list of reference works authored by Polish historians of the Church (incl. a list of MA/PhD theses they have tutored), a rich reviews section and extensive reminiscence-obituaries (with a bio and complete list of publications to the demised author’s credit, plus a profile of his/her output). Thus, one more function of this annual is to coordinate and systematise the research and investigations of the Church’s past, and to integrate the milieu of Polish historians of the Church.

Roczniki Historii Kościoła

Frequency: 1 issues / Country: Poland

The past of Annals of Church History goes back to the 50s of the twentieth century when The Scientific Society of the Catholic University of Lublin initiated publishing of specialist journals representing intellectual activity of individual university departments. It was how the yearbook called Theological Annals started at first. Every year its Issue No 4 was dedicated to Church history. Professors of the Institute of Church History were entrusted with the responsibility for its content. Articles posted in the issue dealt with widely understood history of the Church since antiquity to the present. The journal has become over time an important platform of historical thought exchange for main scientific centres in Poland. Since 2009 the individual issues of Theological Annals have been altered to stand-alone titles with their original ISSN and the anew counted numbers of volumes. It should be noticed though that the next volume of each title has also a parallel continuous numbering which refers to the previous title. Former Theological Annals Issue No 4. History of the Church changed its title to Annals of Church History. Starting with the very first volume its content has been divided in three sections: Articles, Sources and Materials, and Reviews. As far as the articles published in the first section they show in the wide historical context numerous aspects of the Church’s presence both in the world and in Poland. There are many eminent Polish historians among the authors as well as ones from abroad e.g. USA and Papua New Guinea. In the second section i.e. Sources and Materials readers can be easily acquainted with critical editions of original texts documenting important events of the history of the Church. The second section is where educational and scientific activity of Professors of the Institute of Church History is presented, too. Among others it’s carried by contributing to the development of historians’ environment: one can find there lists of M.A. theses, summaries of Ph.D. dissertations and tables of their contents. A valuable addition to the journal is its third part which contains reviews of important Church history publications.

Teologia w Polsce

Teologia w Polsce

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Poland
