Based on the facts, the novel tells about one of the white spots of post-war history - "wolves children". After the Second World War, German orphans wandered around Lithuania in search of a roof over their heads and bread. Fleeing from East Prussia, little Renata is hiding among forests, but also among people - hiding her German origins. He receives foster parents and a new Lithuanian name - Marytė, and the history of her family shows the tragic fate of many refugees from East Prussia in Lithuania. The novel was based on real wolf stories of children and their relatives. The first novel by Alvydas Šlepikas My name is Marysia was recognized as the best Lithuanian book in 2012. The author, known mainly as a poet, uses his lyrical style in his first novel, using extremely visual images and an emotional, torn narration.

Młoda myśl wschodnia

Author(s): / Language(s): Polish

"Młoda myśl wschodnia" to próba uchwycenia najnowszych tendencji w polskim myśleniu o Wschodzie.

Courage and fear

Odwaga i strach

Author(s): Ola Hnatiuk / Language(s): Polish

Keywords: courage; fear; Ola Hnatiuk

Courage and fear is a story about human attitudes in the face of life threat. The author shows the history of occupied Lviv at the level of microhistory, from the perspective of personal history. However, this is not only the extraordinary nature of this book, based on memoirs, memories, letters and even testimonies. It is a story about human fates and, at the same time, about the history of Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish intelligentsia, about complicated relations between its representatives, about various manifestations of solidarity and hostility based on courage and fear.

Search for optimism in the age of pessimism. Eastern Europe - premonitions and forecasts

Poszukiwanie optymizmu w epoce pesymizmu. Europa Wschodnia – przeczucia i prognozy

Author(s): Leonidas Donskis,Tomas Venclova / Language(s): Polish

A volume of correspondence between Leonidas Donskis and Tomas Venclova. Two Lithuanian intellectuals - Venclova, from his youth associated with the anti-communist opposition, finally deprived of citizenship by the authorities of the USSR, and Donskis, a philosopher and active participant in the public debate, conduct a very deep exchange of ideas. Their lists, however, go beyond personal experience - the subject of talks are predictions expressed in Eastern Europe, in which dissidents, oppositionists, social critics, writers and commentators from this region have determined the location, possibilities and future of Europe and the world. The review of forecasts, both conservative and reactionary, such as liberal and democratic, also includes a thorough diagnosis of the present situation - the time of serious challenges and crises over the policy of Vladimir Putin and the situation in Ukraine. Prophecies of Eastern Europeans directly affected by totalitarianism of the twentieth century, which also marked the fate of their countries, are of great value, especially in the face of contemporary challenges facing our part of Europe.

Radio Wolna Europa i Radio Swoboda Lata CIA i późniejsze

Author(s): A.Ross Johnson / Language(s): Polish

"Radio Free Europe and Radio Svoboda. CIA and further years "is the first fully documented position presenting the backstage and the first twenty years of operation of these stations. The study is based on queries carried out in archives in the USA, Germany, Poland and Hungary as well as on the basis of secret CIA files. A. Ross Johnson, assistant to the Polish section of Radio Free Europe, then, in 1988-1991, director of RWE, and today his historian, allows a closer understanding of the assumptions on which the Radio program was based, also answers questions about the relationship between the radio station and the CIA Department of State. The book also follows the development of the American-Eastern European partnership in the creation of RWE, not omitting controversial topics, such as the use of Józef Światła's accounts or the evaluation of Wiesław Gomułka's reforms after 1956.

Author(s): Piotr Kępiński,Herkus Kunčius / Language(s): Polish

The volume of talks between Herkus Kusaus and Piotr Kepinski, a Lithuanian and a Pole, two medium-sized writers. It is not only a dialogue between writers belonging to relatives, from the historical point of view of fraternal nations, but above all a conversation of people with similar experiences. Diverse conversations concern the Soviet era, musical and literary fascinations, the views of their generation on the world, historical events and the recent past. The most current topics, such as the conflict in Ukraine or the situation of the Polish minority in Lithuania are also discussed. As Adam Michnik said in the preface, the book is a praise of conversation, not only between representatives of the same generation, but also between countries, because their mouths are told the experience of countries in which there are more similarities than stereotypical differences.

UKRAINE. Postcolonial syndrome

UKRAINA. Syndrom postkolonialny

Author(s): Mykoła Riabczuk / Language(s): Polish

Ukraine. Postcolonial syndrome is a collection of the most important essays by Mykola Riabczuk from recent years, which have been published in the Polish press. The author of the "two Ukrainians" concept attempts to answer the questions about today's Ukraine as a reference point, taking a post-colonial perspective. It raises current, important and sometimes difficult subjects - the Ukrainian tear between East and West, political problems related to the heritage of Russian colonialism and their relationship with culture or the question of Stepan Bandera. It also refers to current events, such as protests at Majdan. As stated in the preface to the Polish edition, the author, postcolonial syndrome is "sketches concerning not only Ukrainian-Russian relations, but also Ukrainian-Ukrainian (Ukrainian-" Creole "); articles devoted not only to political problems related to colonialism and its heritage, but also - in the first place - cultural problems (in the broadest sense of the word) and psychological problems. " Scientific reliability in combination with journalistic flair makes the book appealing to both specialists and anyone interested in contemporary Ukraine.
