The decision to create a new semi-annual series "Ural-Altaic Studies" within "Journal of Philology" was made during the conference "Historical Linguistics. Altaistics. Turcology" (June 4-7 2009, Moscow). It is the only Russian journal on Altaic and Uralic languages reviewed by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles. It is aimed primarily for linguists, specialists in the languages of Uralic and Altaic groups, and specialists in history and ethography, who are interested in information exchange with linguists.This journal gives a good picture of the general situation in the study of Uralic and Altaic languages. It helps researchers to know works of each other and to make results of researches accessible for foreign scholars. Besides scientific papers there are other sections in the journal. They are the "Discussion" section (for sharing comments on a published paper), the "Personalia" section (with information about prominent specialists), the "Current Events" and the "Reviews" sections.
