Security Determinants of the Democratic Transition of Police in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sigurnosne determinante demokratske tranzicije policije u Bosni i Hercegovini

Author(s): Taib Spahić / Language(s): Bosnian

Keywords: police; Bosnia and Herzegovina; democracy; transition; security;

Throughout the history, the police have always represented significant power of society. Social community established the police institution for its own protection, the protection of the social order on which it had been established, personal protection and protection of the property of each social community member. The role of police was changing in the past depending on social and economic relations in the community the police were operating. The democracy level attained in the society was significantly affecting the role of police and its work. Due to this, in reasearching possibilities on social control over police power, it is important to look into all the aspects of the social development and how it affects strategies of police work, which is necessary to meet all the needs of citizens.

Development of national police forces in Europe

Razvoj nacionalnih policija u Evropi

Author(s): Taib Spahić / Language(s): Bosnian

Keywords: national police forces; European integration processes; EU security system;

This research paper examines a way of functioning of EU security system, using description, classification and explanation, with a special focus on transitional countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. This has resulted in understanding of achieving adequate foundation for establishing new relationships, under European transition and integration processes, between security authorities and social community institutions (citizens). The research confirms causal and consequential dependance and interconnection between internal political processes (of democratic development of society) and European integration processes, that is safety of citizens, under democratization of society and the emergence of new global security threats. Results of the research could be used to better understand setting up of efficient security institutions to counteract security threats in European accession processes.
