Summary/Abstract: The failed ALECA negotiations between the EU and Tunisiarevealed a range of issues which any future cooperation betweenthe EU and the Maghreb needs to be aware of. Beyond tradeliberalisation, the main issue is the political importance ofagriculture.The EU should reconsider its engagement in North Africa. Itshould prioritise localised, bottom-up initiatives that strengthensmall farmersʼ capacities, promote sustainable agriculturalpractices, and enhance community resilience to climate changeand external disruptions.Czechia can contribute to this approach by applying successfuldevelopment cooperation models from Zambia, Ethiopia, andGeorgia. These could focus on implementing climate-smartfarming hubs, community food-resilience programmes, andsupport for traditional agricultural products in Tunisia.
