Summary/Abstract: Following years-long negotiations on the Republic of Serbia’s Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union, the European Council passed a decision granting the Republic of Serbia an EU candidate status on March 1, 2012. Accession negotiations with the European Union were opened in June 2013 and the 1st Intergovernmental Conference was held in Brussels on January 21, 2014, signalling the opening of accession negotiations on the political level.
