Summary/Abstract: The surge of fires burning the Amazon region in August 2019 has, understandably, alarmed the world. Citizens, environmental organizations, activists and countries have united to discuss what can be done to preserve the biggest rainforest in the world. Yet they are faced with the quandary of how to effectively accomplish preservation half a world away and amidst muddied discussions surrounding the Brazilian government’s claims of violation of national sovereignty.
