Summary/Abstract: Trust in the police is of particular importance: due to its “monopoly on violence”, the police are the “mirror” of the state and it is crucial for its legitimacy to have the trust of the citizens. Considering that the police often work in secret and are less transparent than other institutions, the trust of the citizens is of even greater importance. Also, the work of the police depends to a large extent on the cooperation of the citizens and it is difficult to establish such an interaction if there is a certain level of complete distrust. The police in Macedonia is the institution that enjoys the most trust, as 58.5% of the citizens claim to have mostly or completely trust in that institution (with 31% answering that they mostly trust, and 26.8% having completely trust). However, the fact that almost a quarter of the respondents (23%) answered that they do not trust the police at all should not be overlooked.
