Summary/Abstract: The media during the reign of Slobodan Milosevic was an instrument of politics whose basic function was to justify the Great Serbian project and the war in the former Yugoslavia to which that project led. Expectations that this would change after the October 5th changes were not fulfilled. The media did not respond to the controversies of the Serbian transition, but instead became part of those controversies and contributed to the further confusion of citizens. The confusion was the product of a lack of political consensus around a new system of values and a break with Milošević's legacy.
