Summary/Abstract: The eighth presidential election of the Republic of Croatia will be held on 29 December 2024. There are 3,7 Mio eligible voters, who will vote at more than 6,500 polling stations. The President of the Republic of Croatia is elected on the basis of universal and equal suffrage, directly by secret ballot for a term of five years. The territory of the Republic of Croatia, including polling stations outside the borders of the Republic of Croatia, constitutes one electoral unit. Five male and three female candidates are running for the presidency of the Republic of Croatia. In the election campaign, the presidential candidates mainly focused on healthcare, education, the fight against corruption and the migrant crisis, i.e. topics that are not fundamentally the responsibility of the president of the state, instead of focusing on foreign policy issues and challenges (neighbors, EU, NATO) and the Croatian Army, which fall under the authority of the Croatian president.
