Summary/Abstract: Local elections will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on October 6, 2024. Although Bosnia and Herzegovina got the green light to start negotiations on EU membership in March of this year, it was mostly undeserved and represents a symbolic gesture of the EU towards Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to the announcements of Milorad Dodik (SNSD), president of the entity Republika Srpska (RS), a proposal on "peaceful disassociation" with the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has been prepared, which further complicates the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and requires greater involvement of the international community, primarily the USA and NATO, due to the flagrant violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and endangerment of peace. A premature election campaign for local elections is taking place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is not sanctioned by the Central Election Commission (CEC). Dodik is intensifying activities to declare the independence of Republika Srpska, which is causing additional tensions that could lead to conflict in a country with a fragile peace and security vulnerability that could seriously threaten the existing apparent peace.
