Summary/Abstract: This year's European Parliament elections are extremely important. In addition to the European Parliament elections, elections are being held in the United States, so the Euro-Atlantic alliance will be tested. Who will be the new US president is of crucial importance for the EU. The question is whether open, free democracies will prevail. Europe must focus more on defence and protection as a fundamental task. The EU is still taking on its international obligations, (re)positioning itself in international relations and deciding who comes to Europe and under what circumstances.
