Summary/Abstract: President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Kasym Jomart Tokayev - in a statement dated May 1, 2024, welcomed the agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia on negotiations at the level of foreign ministers for the preparation of a peace agreement at the initiative of the Kazakh side. The Kazakh initiative is taking place in a complex global geopolitical situation, the likes of which has not been seen for decades since the outbreak of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This complexity will also affect the course and even the outcome of the negotiations. Another important element is the position of the directly involved parties. In these conditions, it is very difficult to achieve a just and lasting peace. However, starting from the assumption that there is a sincere desire for peace between the two sides, we believe that the success of the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Almaty must take into account several key factors, listed in this paper.
