Summary/Abstract: In the Republic of Croatia, 2024 has been declared a super-election year, as parliamentary elections, elections for the European Parliament and elections for the President of the Republic of Croatia will be held. The parliamentary elections will be held on 17 April, which will be the 11th (early) parliamentary elections since the declaration of independence in 1991. The representatives of the Croatian Parliament are elected directly, by secret ballot, using a proportional system according to which each party or candidate is entitled to a number of parliamentary mandates proportional to the number of votes won. The electoral threshold is 5%. A total of 151 representatives are elected to the Parliament. 140 representatives are elected from the territory of the Republic of Croatia, which is divided into 10 electoral units, with 14 representatives elected from each electoral unit. Three representative seats are elected by Croatian citizens abroad (11th electoral unit) and eight are elected by members of national minorities (12th electoral unit). These are the fifth parliamentary elections in which preferential voting is possible. Not enough has been done so far to promote preferential voting and active citizenship.
