Summary/Abstract: According to the data of the Survey on the Living Standards of Internally Displaced Persons (AŽS IDP) from 2007,1 internally displaced persons represent an extremely vulnerable group on the Serbian labor market. All basic indicators indicate that IDPs have a significantly worse position compared to the general population in Serbia: the unemployment rate is higher by 22.1 percentage points, while the employment and activity rates are lower by 20.9 and 10.4 percentage points, respectively (Table 1-1). In addition, IDPs work much more often in the informal sector, as well as in temporary or seasonal jobs, and the earnings they earn are generally below the average or even below the minimum wage (Cvejić and Babović, 2008), which indicates that, compared to the resident population, employed IDPs mostly perform lower-quality (and lower-paid) jobs. On the other hand, the main characteristic of IDP unemployment is a significantly longer wait for employment compared to the resident population (Cvejić and Babović, 2008).
