Summary/Abstract: After the abolition of the visa regime for travel to EU countries, many citizens of Serbia used the freedom of travel to apply for asylum, trying to solve their economic problems. Western countries interpret such migrations as an abuse of the asylum system and have warned Serbia that the decision on the visa-free regime will be reconsidered if the number of asylum seekers does not decrease. Both Serbia and the European Union have already taken certain administrative measures, but the complexity of migration flows and the intertwining of the reasons that motivate people to migrate emphasize the need to approach this topic in a differentiated and multiple way, in order to harmonize the needs of people in migration with the possibilities of conducting a realistic migration policy both in Serbia and in the EU.
