Summary/Abstract: When talking about the standards of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which constitutes a legally binding source of adjudication in the national laws of high contracting parties, it should be said that some of these standards are contained in the basic text of this treaty, while others were introduced through the adoption of the additional protocols. The case law of the European Court of Human Rights is an important additional source of human rights. The Court is a body the authority of which has by far surpassed the legal framework of the Convention and which is greatly used as a referential standard in the application of the rules of criminal procedure even outside European borders.
