Summary/Abstract: Women in Serbia are recognized as one of the most vulnerable social groups, which is at constant risk of discrimination and discriminatory treatment. According to the Gender Equality Index, Serbia is also below the EU average in terms of gender equality. The biggest gaps are in the area of finance and employment, but also time allocation and health are additional areas where women are disadvantaged. The persistence of gender inequality and continuous discrimination against women in many areas led to the adoption of the National Strategy for Gender Equality in 2016, the aim of which is to improve the position of women and bring Serbia closer to EU standards. The adopted Strategy is in accordance with international and European practice and recognizes the gendering of public policies as an effective tool for combating discrimination through "(re)organization, improvement, development and evaluation of the process of creating policies by actors who are part of the process of creating public policies, so that the perspective of gender equality is part of all public policies, at all levels and in all phases."
