Summary/Abstract: The issue of European integration is one of the main issues of politics and public opinion in the Republic of Serbia in the period after the October 5th changes. Serbia's membership in the European Union (EU) has become the strategic goal of all governments that have been formed in the past 25 years and that have managed that process with variable results. The accession process was also affected by the environment, filled with numerous turbulent events, frequent crises, elections and marked electoral volatility. After years of negotiations and work on reforms, the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the EU and Serbia was adopted in the European Parliament (EP) in 2011. Due to certain developments in the Belgrade-Priština dialogue negotiations, as well as a clear political will in the direction of reforms, the Republic of Serbia received the status of a candidate for EU membership in 2012. Two years later (2014), negotiations on EU accession began and by 2025, Serbia opened 22 out of a total of 35 chapters in negotiations on EU accession, and of those 22, two chapters were closed - Chapter 25: Science and research and Chapter 26: Education and culture.
