Summary/Abstract: The Serbian economy is significantly integrated with the economies of the European Union member states. The consistency and volume of trade flows between Serbia and the EU, as well as the proportion of business activity, confirm the interconnectedness of the economies. The data that in 2019 trade exchange reached 24 billion euros and that direct investments from the EU exceeded 2 billion euros, prove the importance of the economic ties between the two sides. However, only when these data are put into context does the full picture emerge – 67% of Serbian exports of goods go to the EU, while 58% of Serbian imports of goods and more than half of all foreign direct investments come from the EU. Therefore, for the Serbian economy, the EU is by far the most important economic partner, and therefore further and deeper integration with the EU single market is a legitimate goal for the Republic of Serbia.
