Summary/Abstract: In December 2009, the Republic of Serbia submitted the application for membership in the European Union.In its Opinion of Serbia’s Application for EU membership (Avis) issued in 2011 the European Commission concluded that “Serbia would be in a position to take on the obligations of membership in the medium term(5-years), in nearly all acquis fields, provided that the alignment process continues and that further efforts are made to ensure the implementation and enforcement of legislation.”The Republic of Serbia began accession negotiations with the European Union on 21st January 2014.
