Summary/Abstract: The road fund of the Republic of Moldova is underfunded compared to its projected level in accordance with the Transport and Logistics Strategy for 2013-2022. The level of financial resources actually allocated annually is lower than the forecasted one by about 1 billion lei (30%). The evolution of its volume is unpredictable and totally dependent on the discretion of politicians who approve the annual budget. The structure of the road fund by type of work reveals that both at the central and local levels, the largest share is not held by periodic maintenance works, as would have been indicated, but by capital construction works or routine maintenance works.
