Summary/Abstract: Communitarization of visa policy of the European Union (EU) results from the clash of two paradigms, that of providing security in the EU and promoting it as an attractive Area of Freedom, Security and Justice. Visa policy thus presents an important political tool in the relations between EU and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries. After the Eastern wave of enlargement (2004-2007), the communitarization of visa policy has accelerated as the new member states were obliged to introduce visa for citizens of countries and thus restricted their mobility.
